Some mistake here, BMU 4181 is a desoto belonging to the owner of a petrol pump in Bombay and the photograph is taken at the pump where the car is currently parked.

Discovered this at Vasanna's garage. 1954 Ford Prefect.















The body looked to be in good condition barring a few rusted spots. The engine hasn't run in 5 years and it's come to this craftsman for revival. Vasanna has revived quite a few vintages and is considered a genius in engine and mechanical works.

We were his regular clients as long as we had our '74 Premier Padmini. I still go to him for diagnosing problems in my Alto even though he does not work on these "newer cars".

Nice Prefect, though by no means is it a '54 model!

Infact this design of the Prefect in your pics. is of the late 40s; post 1950, it changed slightly with the headlamps being incorporated into the front fenders (my dad had one of those in the 70s, incidentally), which continued until maybe 1952 or '53:

Both are rare to be seen here.

Believe it or not, the Marina uses very similar components to the Ambassador. This is a 1.3 hence uses the A series engine used in some Mini's/ The 1.8 version uses a bored out Ambasador engine.

It was a real heap that British Leyland tried fooling customers with. They preferred Ford Cortina's
