It is not a hack job from what I've been told. A few parts aren't original but otherwise it is a rare car in our country. This was told to me when I was looking for this car's history/details around a year and half ago. Car has been in long term ownership of a BHPian and now passed onto someone in the extended family.

Posted on FB is this relatively rare car in India. This is a 1956-57 Dodge Coronet. The taillights are different from the Kingsway, we are so used to seeing. The picture shows that it is a LHD, so probably a period import with a V8 engine.

Looks the same as a Kingsway from the front


Note that it is a LHD


The rear is different and the Coronet Badging is seen


Hubcaps are different to the Kingsway

Steering is OE but the horn button has changed to Mahendra. Also the gearshift to floor shift. The car is Vauxhall Velox / Wvyren .

These 404s were almost bullet proof. I remember one Mr Sharma had two if not three of these 404s. Two Breaks and one sedan. two were diesels. He was the guy who rented out the pneumatic drilling machines for breaking roads way back in the 80s and 90s. His company was called Arc Brazer. I remember seeing him driving these beauties all by himself and he loved them. There were quite a few but now seems a rarity. ive seen one after almost decades.
Fond memories of these i have, having owned a 404 convertible for a long time, then sold in Bangalore a while ago.
