Re: Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India

Was surprised to find this Morris Minor Lowlight tourer in Calcutta Club parking the other evening. Beside the fact that its a very rare model, I liked the owner's attitude to display it at the club. Indrojit, any idea who it belongs to?

Yes the Austin (forgot the exact model?) belongs to Keval Kant Gir, DKG's Uncle. He had kindly given me a ride in it once, in the first DECHAA rally I attended back in 2005 when I didnt have a ride to participate (and wasnt living in hyd. either then)

Re: Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India

The Yellow Road Master is Rashid Bhai's car, the Yellow MG used to belong to Kumar Verma. In the first picture of teh MG you cna see Rashed Bhai's 47 Lincoln V12 in the background.

These pics are from the grand car rally that was staged by the Krishna Oberoi in the late eighties. This was the last time Rashed Bhai took his cars out, some nine of them were entered in the event including the Jaguar Roadster

The First Austin is Kewal Kan't Gir's pride and joy, an immaculately maintained car that is old but still gets hot....exactly like its owner.

The Silver Austin six is also from DKG's family

The 39 Buick Roadmaster is Chiv Craran's car, my sister was driven to her wedding and back in this car ! The CAT Buick belongs to his brother

The Fiat appears to eb the same car posted by Vintage Khan !

Re: Austin-7

Hi Shyn, this is Austin 7, 4-dr of 1936-38 model, very nice car we used to have 2 dr model 38's. Our car doors used to open up when top was down
at turnings, the handle used to fixed to car. My father was droping filmstar Waheed Rahman's nephew to Begumpet airport from Banjara Hills Road No. 8, he like very much our Austin-7 and insist on buying, so we sold to him, but he requested to drive to Bombay, so it was
driven to his home in Bombay. He also purchase from my uncle other cars, Hillman 1928, Jaguar, Mercedes, Dodge all cars were driven to Bombay. I don't know our Austin-7 survive in his collection or not.

Grey Fiat 1933 belongs to Jubilee Autoparts, last time I had seen it was not in good condition.

Cheers!

Austin yes, but is it really a 7?? Isnt this a different model (10?)

This car happens to be with a mechanic who has his garage near Marriott (its near TANK BUND btw, not Necklace road! )
He had earlier (more than a year ago) said that it was for sale and was quoting an astronomical price for it!

'wonder why on earth they have now wrapped up the front bumper in plastic though!

Austin before restoration and now.

Reference Post # 1370 & 1372, this Austin if I am correct was lying with the denter near Owaisi Hospital road for long time. I have taken some pictures around 2007. It was not restored at that time, see the attached pictures.

Cheers!

Re: Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India

Looks like it ended up pretty well, except for the chromed radiator shell which should have been painted actually. This is an Austin 10. Pity it appears to have lost its original Lucas side marker lamps on the fenders.

An interesting thing about this model car is the hinged rear license plate. The idea is that if you have big items to carry in the boot you can do so by keeping the boot door open, when this happens the license plate swings on the hinge so thatit is still visible under the open boot door.

Anyidea what is that sedan car being worked on in front of the Austin, looks like a Morris 8 Sedan ?

I agree Shyam this is surely a Austin 10/4. Considering this has 4 doors, it is in all probability a chopped car.
'wonder why on earth they have now wrapped up the front bumper in plastic though!

When you give your bumper for chrome plating it normally comes wrapped in plastic to avoid damage
The car does not have the original D tail light, seems to have Morris Minor tail lamps. Wrongly has handles on the boot. It should hole with a flip type cover and you have a tool to open the boot.

I will dig out the pictures of our 1935 Austin 10/4 Lichfield Saloon which we sold in 2004 after having it for close to 20 years.

Cheers

If it has a green canvas/cloth top it belongs to a Cal Club member who is my father's friend.
