Re: Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India

If this is a LHD it may be a Mercury Capri, if RHD its a Ford Capri. And whatever they are, they are the same car, sold in different countries. Though i have yet to see a Capri badged Mercury. If Wiki says so, so be it but even the American models i have seen were badged Ford, so im confused, wiki can be confusing so many times. What does it say in the RC book?

Re: Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India

I did try asking the guy from whom I got these pics about this car but he refuses to talk about it! I also tried asking him where the car is so that I could personally go and check it out but he is not replying to any of my messages! I guess it's the same car clicked over a period of time. BTW it's a LHD so it must be the Mercury Capri!
Here's a pic of the same car before it's restoration, looks like the same place to me!

Re: Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India

Hi.

Regarding the Capri can you please post the plate number on it ?

Also is it a 1.6 or a 2.0.

There was a 2.0 Ford Capri in Hyderabad with a guy who used to live next at the end of the Masab Tank bund just before the Castle hills area.

There is a bakery there now and his house was just before the bakery.

This car was a LHD and had the Ford Capri badging on it and was a deep yellow color ...I think this blue one is the same car

There were two more Capri's in Hyd in those days that I know about. One was a early Silver car (RHD) belonging to Siraj & Renu which was a 1.6 and then there was another beige or Tan colored one that I cant recollect much about.

I think at one time that Aman guy also had a Capri with him.

Read my previous post, I've clearly said that the guy is ignoring me and all my queries regarding this Capri! I've shared all the pics and info I had about this car, sorry but I know no more about this Capri!

This one has been in our colony for a while now. Any idea what it is!?

Hi Boss, a small correction

There were LHD Ford Capri as well - made by Ford Germany. I used to have access to and drive a Ford Capri LHD 1973 model during the period from 1975 to 1979, in and around Bangalore - a deep yellow coloured one. I don't know where it ended up though, in Chennai as per some, by others in Hyderabad.

It was a fantastic car and in those days Bangalore raods were a pleasure to drive in

Best Regards & Drive/Ride Safe

There used to be one lying with a water service station near Ramanthapur, the road connecting to shivam temple road (also called as che number locally), I presume this is the same one but when I saw it the body line was good, I am not sure.

Wasif bhai can you please give some more details of this jeep (if I can call it, seems to me like a small truck) what engine it has originally, how valuable it is in terms of a collectible stuff.

Ram...was it a 2.0 ??? The deep yellow car in Hyd was a LHD with a plate starting with M so it could well be the same car. The 2.0 was a bit better on power than the 1.6.

Chanu.

The details on the GAZ 69 are on this link below.

gaz69

They ghave a very interesting website devoted to this model.

PS: Ram hope you see an improvment in my spelling !!!

Hi, V16 said that if it is LHD, then only it could be a Mercury, but need not be as it can be a Ford too. I myself tripped over his post and was to comment. And the Mercury Capri's were anyway made in Cologne, Germany and sent to America.
These are nice useable cars, have a sporty presence, but are they collectible? Not likely, Ford Escort was much more collectible, rallied around the world, quite a few came to India but now there are few survivors here.

Cheers harit

Yes Ram i agree. see the underlined part of my earlier post where i said i have seen LHD Capris marked Ford too so i agree that LHD Capris were there, i have for one not seen a Capri badged Mercury though i have read about it. Thanks for explaining on my behalf Harit.
Sorry for the confusion, i could not explain properly.

As mentioned above, all LHDs do not mean Mercury. From the looks of the blue oval monogram, it looks like its a Ford badge.

Wasif,

It was 2 ltr and when in Bangalore the pale was MEE 963. All the cars of the owner had number totaling 9. Along with this Capri another Ford - Fairmont 1973 Model - was also registered for the same owner which had the plate MEE 999.

I think now your fingers have become slower than your mind and now the spelling seem to have imoroved - no jmbles

Best Regards & Drive/Ride Safe

Aree boss don't take it so seriously, I only meant that I was regretful I couldn't explain the intent of my post properly, hence the post was misunderstood, nothing underlined here, just a statement. Don't get serious about it. Anyways no issues buddy.

Re: Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India

Apologies for the low quality pictures.

Spotted these on NH45, GST Road, on the out skirts of Chennai (on the Chengalpet-Tambaram stretch). They were chugging along on their way into Chennai.

I'm zero when it comes to vintage cars. Pray, what are these models?
