Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Not exactly a film but an old Limca ad maybe from the late 80s. Featuring a late 40s Dodge Custom:

Not sure about the Ad Shyam but is it really possible for 2 people to push the Dodge, that too on inclined road?

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

'got to know about this courtesy jayD. From a Malayalam movie (quite a number of old cars appear in them!) that seems to date from the late 80s or early 90s.

Supposed to be a comedy scene, the guy is learning how to drive in it and ends up crashing the car into a brick wall!

The car seems to be an early (1961-62) Herald from what I could glimpse of the dash. Sad about the exterior though...'guess the front bumper was fitted specially for the wall-smashing scene!

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Hi,

This song features a couple of cars, the first possibly a packard (?) and the next a Ponton. The regn as well as the band suggests the cars are possibly from Pakistan? Please find a couple of screenshots and the actual video below.

Moderators: Technically not a bollywood song and neither is it that old, delete post if inappropriate, my apologies if so.

Regards,

Srinand.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

An early Herald (cant believe how many B'wood movies had them!) turned topless and painted red in a 1969 movie 'Waris' driven by Hema Malinil:

Number could be fake. In fact I suspect this scene was shot somewhere down south like Madras, as the car has the 'dot' painted on each headlamp centre as was the rule in Madras.

'wonder if the car still exists.

Here are Shammi Kapoor and Vijayanthimala from the film Prince (1969) featured in the yesteryear hit "nazar me bijli ada me sholay". The video features a MG and in the later part a Ford Model "A" is also seen.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

This is a link of an I.S. Johar film "Johar in Bombay". The song shows many, many cars on the Bombay streets from yester-years. A rare video and a real treat to watch.Incidentally,10/03/2012 happens to be the 28th death anniversary of I.S. Johar. the lady featured here is Sonia Sahani, his third wife. Johar married five times but sadly lead a lonely life during his last days.

While in college I used to see I.S. Johar very regularly, he used to come to the coffee shop at Jehangir Art Gallery. He always wore orange.
And, the 1955 Chevy in this clip is with me, same car used by Dev Anand in Jewel thief.
Buick is not Bulldogji's, that car was black before he aquired it.

Cheers harit

Thanks harit for the facts.Yes, in fact the 1955 Chevy is a much seen filmy car of the mid and late 1960's. I do not know whether it appeared in any film in the 1950's and early 1960's.It good that its with you now. Had seen some pictures of the car parked in a garage lately.
I.S. Johar, as you rightly put it donned the saffron robe during his later years. He used to say in his words,"I too am trying to be a fraud holy man like all the bhagwans and sants who are taking thousands of people for a ride. I am an apparatus and I am sure that I will be one of the best holy frauds very soon".
Which car would he drive in, when you saw him at the Jehangir Art Gallery?
