Karl,

They could not have been recently united as stated by you, RJD 101 has been wearing new colours for quite a while now

But the picture is very pleasing, thanks

The Invicta sure looks petite next to the Bentleys! I always thought it was much larger.

Yes indeed, not very recent - I guess the picture was taken the last time the cream Bentley was visiting Bombay, which would be 2013. But recent enough compared to the last time all three were united

I do not know how accurate the "Mysore" attribution is.

Looks like cars from The 21 Gun Salute collection. Interesting is the classic cars the Packard , Lincoln and the Cadillac . This and a Mysore car ..and can't say but never know if the Austerity drive kicked in Mysore like the Nizam.

Cheers

Re: "Doing a Mysore" again - Cars of Maharaja of Mysore

After 3 years of restoration, this Dilambda (1929) with a Viotti Body is now up and running!. It was recently displayed in the Rotunda in the Royal Autombile Club in Pall Mall , London. The car was an Ex-Mysore car , (Registration No MYR 149) It was commissioned by HH and was driven out of Torino,Italy in 1929 ,to India by Signor Simonelli , who later became the Superintendent in the Palace Garage in Mysore.

The car was taken out of Dehli (legally) by Professor NPW Moore in Jor Bagh, Delhi. He was in India in the 1960s working on a project in IIT New Delhi and also was the Motoring Correspondent with the Stateman, Dehli. He was also one of the founding members of the Vintage Car Movement in Delhi and was involved in the Statesman Rally Events in the 1960s.

Please see Link below:
The car being driven into the club on 20th July 2015 and driven out of the club on the 27th July.

Thanks so much for the history! The SYY 47F registration seems to have changed.

You can see Prof. Moore in this wonderful short video (Statesman Rally, 1967) that I just posted just yesterday (in the Faster789 thread).

I see Prof.Moore's 12/50 Alvis, not the other cars.

Re: "Doing a Mysore" again - Cars of Maharaja of Mysore

Thank you for the posting and also for the video of the Alvis at the Stateman Rally in 1967. I will cherish the memory of seeing Peter driving the Alvis and especially in the Stateman Rally which I understand was his favourite rally event. He did drive the Dilamda many a time in the rally but perhaps someone else must have driven the car at that event!. I am so glad that you were able to produce the video afer all these years! Well done and thank you for posting it.

I am still in the process of compiling the notes for the Dilambda. It was very observant of you to notice the change of the registration number . BF 7168 had substituted SYY47F since January 2015 as the latter number did not reflect the era of the car, thus confusing a lot of people here in UK. The original number for the car whilst in India was MYR 149 . The restoration work was kept close to the original state. The radiator had to be recored and I was fortunate enough to find an original but new water pump. The carburetor was fully refurbished by a friend. I would have liked to have a new carburetor but have not been able to locate one as yet. It is a Zenith Type 105 DC . Hopefully, one of these days I may one may just turn up! I hope you have enjoyed watching the youtube showing the driving skill of the driver! The whole operation of getting the Dilambda in and out of the building was rather hair raising for the driver!! But he did it very skillfully with the help of Tony, the RAC marshall.
The Dilambda generated a lot of interest in the Clubhouse in Pall Mall. Unsurprisingly so as there are not many Dilambda's around and especially with a Viotti Body!

"Doing a Mysore" again - Cars of Maharaja of Mysore-mysore-hillman-sixteen-minx-1936-similar-tbhp.jpg

After many years of soul and web searching, I have come to the conclusion that the Mysore car on the left in the LIFE photograph is a ca 1936 Hillman Hawk or Sixteen - similar to the car pictured just above.

The two chrome strakes, painted grille surround, low set wing lamps and "a la Cadillac" hood ornament seem to be characteristic.

Now for the expert(s) opinion!
