Europe: SUVs account for 50% of all new car sales in 2023

Unlike in America, where full-size large SUVs are more popular, in Europe, customers prefer small & compact crossovers.

According to reports, Europe witnessed SUVs accounting for over 50% of all new vehicle sales in 2023.

The reports mentioned that SUVs and crossovers accounted for 51% of new vehicle sales, with the remaining 49% being made up of hatchbacks, sedans, wagons and trucks. This translates to a 19% increase in SUV & crossover sales compared to 2022.

Among them, the Tesla Model Y had the highest sales figures, which, on its own, managed a massive 85% rise in units sold. The Tesla Model Y went on to become the best-selling vehicle in the world for 2023, outselling the likes of the Toyota Corolla & RAV4.

Unlike in America, where full-size large SUVs are more popular, in Europe, customers prefer small & compact crossovers. These compact SUVs in Europe accounted for 4.1 million units of sales. However, in the SUV category, premium SUVs from luxury brands witnessed the largest annual increment of 31%, registering 843,939 sales.
