Fuel pumps postpone plans for Sunday off, remain open

The highly talked about decision of fuel pump owners to remain closed on Sundays from May 14, 2017 has been postponed for the time being. Most fuel stations across the country were operational during the weekend, after the consortium of Indian petroleum dealers called off its earlier decision to shut shop on Sundays.

This change in plan occurred after the oil marketing companies called a review meeting to talk about the issues being faced by fuel pump owners and operators. The petroleum dealer body will thus make a final call about whether or not to go ahead with the 'Sunday off' schedule after the said meeting.

The consortium of petroleum dealers in India had earlier issued a notice that mentioned that all fuel pumps in 8 states of the country will remain shut on Sundays, starting from May 14. The 8 states listed in this notice included Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Haryana. A total of 20,000 petroleum dealerships were estimated to be affected by this decision.
