8/10/12/15" Sub?? - Which is better for SQ?

Okay... Next one...

This is something that I read... and I found the subject very interesting.... Hence am posting it here so that the resulting debate can help everyone.

It is generally regarded that 15" subs are BOOMIER - and 10"s are tighter and that 15"s can go lower than 10"s - but am also told this is wrong... Granted that 15" will mean more SPL even if the Xmas is the same - but does it mean the 15" cant be as fast as the 10?? ... And is there an impact on SQ? .... In other words.. 8" or 10" or 12" or 15" - which of these will be best for SQ?...

Lets assume two things first - Assume its all a part of the same line of subs - and same application.

ID MAX............................................. .all the way for SQ

but have u not taken the sub IDQ already.....

it all depends on the listing requirement , some are satisfied with one 12 inch and some are with 2 10inch . the part that this sub go low and the other stuff not only depends on the sub size only it also depend on the sub make its thiele parameter and the enclousre also.....

for example let us take a 2 10 inch sub and a 1 15 inch sub...the surface area of the same will be -> 10 inch = 50 sq inch so total it will be 100sqinch now if we take a 15 inch its area will be 140 sq inch. so the surface area will be nearly 1.5 times more that the two 10 inch.

ICE Setup

Hi

I am newbie and will be getting my Xeta by the end of this week.

I am planning to install a MP3 with Aux for Ipod and speakers. Checked out a store at Milan - Six Eleven (SE) and he suggested I install Sony MP3 and Sound stream speakers.

I dont like too much of bass though, I prefer acoustic and crystal clear music. Anyways, he suggested that Sound stream are much better than JBL which I asked for initially. SE mentioned that I will not get a good effect of music if there are no rear speakers.

Can you help me in this? Most importantly I will have a CNG fitted at the back and Shaman Motors - dealers mentioned that then I cannot have rear speakers and will have to install 4 inch & 5 inch speakers near the 3 front doors.

Six Eleven - guy mentioned that he will have a tray installed at the back and then fix the speakers properly.

My worry is that the CNG kit looked big and whether they will have any impact with the CNG. I have sent a mail to Wolfinstein to check what he has done and if he faced any problems.

My budget would not exceed more than 15k, so HU, rear speakers is all or (door speakers) if you suggest they will do the job.

Will look forward to hear from you also if you have a better and reliable dealer, do let me know.

Thanks

Saildrive

think with 2 sub option and a boot saver design, he would he using the boot as the closed box. And teh subs firing behind the rear seats. Or can he have one each in custom fibrebox on each side of boot?

guys guys guys.... dont miss the plot completely....

To clarify - YES - I have picked up TWO iDQ 10's already... that is not my question

My question is how do you determine what size of a sub to use to achieve your SQ goal? ... ATHAVA ... how is a 10 " different from a 12" and a 15" in SQ terms..

For SQ, anyday I would go for multiple small drivers rather than big drivers, because for SQ speed and integration matters which is hard to find in the bigger drivers.

Kb,go for two 10" as 10"s will be produce more tight/punchy bass than two 12".

sq is not all about going very low i beleive.I would prefer my sub to lay 40-60Hz sounds better than it could play 20-25Hz frequencies.....

Am i right experts?

Spot on RSJ, difference of 5-10Hz does not matter in SQ and loudness can be taken care by using multiple drivers.
