Its just a logical scrapping. The papers are currently running.

Give's you good idea what are the dimensions that you are looking at?
Thank you twinn. I figured out That a NGCS chassis of a Major would be my best bet to carry out this modification. But again, I need to search for one.

I am dropping the idea of using the current chassis of the Thar DI. I noticed yesterday during a closer inspection that the chassis has twisted a bit. Although the mechanic says he can fix it. I don't want to risk it.

Rest of the other components are in great condition and can be used.

re: A Mahindra CJ500 DP and a custom made Expedition Trailer

The Ronin went for a service and got all oils changed, hubs greased along with all nipples and a general top up. As a continuing work a half cabin top was made and installed. It continues to drive well and provide a lot of thrill. On the trailer front the interiors have been made and hopefully this weekend the front canopy tent shall be stitched and installed. I also hope to get the trailer wiring done this Sunday.

re: A Mahindra CJ500 DP and a custom made Expedition Trailer

This Saturday while driving to a city about 55 kms away faced the first major breakdown on road. About 15 kms before the destination the Oil Pressure pipe broke and sprayed hot engine oil inside the cabin. Fortunately no burns. Had to somehow plug the pipe to prevent the entire engine oil leaking out. So plugged the pipe to a large screw inside the engine bay and drove or rather crawled to the next town. Changed the pipe and had to put in about 3 ltrs of engine oil. Anyway how we can substitute the existing system for oil pressure changed so that the oil does not have to be routed to the meter?

Your oil pressure meter is direct type, that is it measures the actual pressure at the meter, hence it carries the high pressure oil from the engine. There are indict type meters also available. These have a pressure sensor screwed in. After that there is only an electrical connection. Modern meters use this system.

Your current oil pressure meter would be having a pipe running from the meter to the engine. At the engine end there is a connector which screws the pipe to the block. The newer type oil pressure meters should have the same connector at the engine block side. You can go to any major car parts dealer and check the oil pressure meters for compatibility with your engine.

Finally some progress on the trailer as well. The front shall be made of canvas as per the model trailer picture. The colour scheme on the trailer.

re: A Mahindra CJ500 DP and a custom made Expedition Trailer

Finally I bit the bullet and got the FIP overhauled at South Calcutta Diesels Pvt Ltd at Kolkatta. The cost came to Rs 15800 that included replacement of rotor for about Rs 9000. after fitting the smoke has lessened by about 90% but still there is some. I am thinking ill go in for service of the nozzles as well and then lets see what happens. The pictures:

The direct oil pressure pipe has been changed to an electronic one with only a light for low pressure indicator.

Another important thing is to not place too much weight towards the back of the trailer.

Distribute the weight so that it is heavier at the front.

Watch this superb demonstration:

Yes all planning has been done to ensure that at any point of time 60% of the weight is forward of the axle. A middle cross wooden beam has been placed to help with the loading and to ensure there is no weight shifting during towing on inclines. Further another good thing about this Mahindra Owen trailers is that the tongue itself is very heavy and makes for a good weight balancer.

Amazing what you have achieved here. This is truly awesome way to travel and enjoy nature. I was reading about another pricey build in australia and here it is. May be helps inspire you further.
