One question though - is it black smoke or white smoke. I am yet to perform steps suggested by DB sir, i wanted to complete 1000 kms in as is condition and wanted to do those steps along with oil change.
May be in a months time, i will reach 1000 kms mark.

Shubhendra jee, its whitish smoke. During initial start and at low rpms. Once the engine picks up rpms while running it gets reduced and while coming at rest again initially there is none but then it starts emitting again. I thought it might be a blown head gasket but there is no air blowback in the radiator. If you can pm me your number ill send a video on whatsapp for you to better appreciate the kind of smoke.
Cheers..

I think Ill continue driving some more with the smoke and see of it settles down. if not then will start addressing probable solutions one by one. Meanwhile got hold of an original rooplas fibre top and will use it as winter kit on the jeep. Some pictures of the FRP top.

Its a nice thing to have. But, how will you accommodate changes you are making for soft top ? i think scissor top has to be removable type for FRP top.

Shubhendra jee that is the question am addressing these days. One option is to mount the scissors inside the tub so that they fold flat behind the rear seat within the body tub outline. Another option is to mount it with the bracket screwed on the body tub and simply unscrew the two brackets to mount the FRP top.

Above option is good, get the bracket fabricated in such a way that it doesnt obstruct FRP when you put it on.

What tyre pressure should I run? The mechanic last time put it at 40psi and during the road trip today, I found the drive too be wobbly. Also found a bit of steering vibration a bit more pronounced than the previous drives.

re: A Mahindra CJ500 DP and a custom made Expedition Trailer

Finally designed the rear swing type spare tyre carrier. In order to make clearance for the drop down tail gate a wooden block has been added between the original swing arm mount and the body tub. The anchor plate has been shortened and the spare tyre moved more towards the edge. I also plan to add an arm made of angle iron to hold a jerrycan. That arm shall be held to the rear bumper by anchor points made of rubber hood latches. I also plan to support the weight of the tyre with a small wedge welded onto the rear bumper and support the spare tyre at its lowest point. Some pictures:

re: A Mahindra CJ500 DP and a custom made Expedition Trailer

Body mount brackets have been fixed for the canopy scissors. I plan to make the canopy in two parts. The first part shall cover only the front seats and shall have tie down straps at its rear end and also a zipper to attach to the rear part. The front part shall be folded and packed in a custom made bag mounted on the windshield top itself while the rear shall get stored behind the rear seats. I plan to add an additional flap over the zipper part that shall have a Velcro strip at its end to attach snugly to the rear part. Any suggestions on cons of the dual canopy setup?

Took the jeep out for some 4x4 fun and it was a hoot. Was able to use both H and L range and it was fun on the loose sand of the river bank. Shall post some pictures and video soon.

The suspension is stiff. What is the ideal spring setup that I should use? Should I remove a couple of short springs and put in the longer bolero ones?
