re: A Mahindra CJ500 DP and a custom made Expedition Trailer

It seems they only cleaned the nozzles and replaced them again. Today visited the mico service centre. They said that the originals (made in France!!) need to be changed as they have out lived their life now. The guy was almost 100% sure that replacing the nozzles will eliminate the smoke. So got the new TVS DELPHI ones and they shall be replaced now along with the washers and the small holding bracket which had burnt and had to be cut out to remove the nozzles. Head gasket will also be changed. Fingers crossed. The new nozzles part number is 0008-099V. DoM Aug 13, Cost 693/- per piece.
Original ones were RD SDC 6577B made in France.

re: A Mahindra CJ500 DP and a custom made Expedition Trailer

How to remove the burnt nozzle housing from the head block? The mech is unable to pry it out. This is how it looks right now.

The head has been taken off and it looks like this. The mech is trying to scrape out the burnt parts but its an AL head and he says if it cant be scraped out fully we need a new head.

re: A Mahindra CJ500 DP and a custom made Expedition Trailer

The lights are working now since they have been wired. Had to change the fuel gauge as it was not working. Now am thinking that instead of the regular indicator parking light combo on the front fenders ill simply use a flat led rectangle for tuner indicators and use a circular led beneath the front lights as the parking lamps.

re: A Mahindra CJ500 DP and a custom made Expedition Trailer

The jeep is running absolutely fine except the smoke issue. It has been taken on a few sandy river bank excursions and has performed well. Highway speed is also good and in short I am enjoying the driving. A few questions though:
1. If I plan to alter the suspension spring configuration to make the ride softer which 1/2 springs (from the middle or top or bottom) should I aim to remove?
2. Thinking of altering the dash configuration as well to include all the meters around the central speedo.
Now for some pics, hopefully canvas shall be put in the next few days, while painting is still some time away.

Got the canvas top made today. The side curtains and the rear curtain can be folded and hung from the roof panel. The large mica sheet windows can be rolled separately even when the canvas curtains are fixed. Here are the pictures.

re: A Mahindra CJ500 DP and a custom made Expedition Trailer

Guys what should be the optimum running temperature of the XDP4.9? For some reason my temperature needle seldom goes beyond 50 and even with a card board in front it doesnot rise. I have been asking the mechanics to sort it out but they say it's fine. Please advise.

Theoretically, i dont know but in general driving condition (including stop and go traffic)in Poona it hovers between 60-70 Degrees. In peak sunlight and ghats reaches to 80 degrees and in offroad you can touch maximum

Shubhendra jee mine always almost stays at 50. Even pulling for 15 minutes in brahmaputra sand banks raises it just a small notch above 50. Any way to check if the cooling is fine. The water level decreases almost negligible and it does get hot. lol. Also I do not even have a fan shroud. How can I check if the system is running fine or not?

First get the fan shroud, XDP/3P are temp sensitive.
Remove current meter and its wiring which connects to engine and get it checked, probably borrowed from another jeep for quick 30 mins.
Though i never heard of such cool XDP/3P engine that too without fan shroud.

Canvas works are over. Total cost came to 6500 INR. Now only a bikini top remains to be made to provide shade to the front seats occupants only. The pictures.

re: A Mahindra CJ500 DP and a custom made Expedition Trailer

I bought a new temp gauge and went about replacing the same. Previously I dipped the gauge in boiling water and yet it refused to register any temp. But one of the nuts refused to come out and the gauge was stuck. Took it to the mechanic but even he could not move it. Left it for another day but on the way back noticed the gauge working well. I think all the twisting and turning and wrenching brought it back to life. Now it shows a working temp of constant 60 degrees and when using a cardboard to check the temp rises to about 90 and then returns back to 60 once the card board is removed. The jeep is earning its keep this weekend and ferried the inflatable kids pool for a weekend pool party.

re: A Mahindra CJ500 DP and a custom made Expedition Trailer

Thinking about relocating the two meteors onto the main dash itself. But working beneath the dash is cumbersome as it is so am thinking of cutting a small square on the main dash around the present Speedo hole and then use the MAHINDRA dash gauge plate to mount the five meters in a cluster. That way I can just pull the dash plate out and have access to the rear wiring. Advisable?
