Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hey Everyone,

I'm searching for a good dashcam for our Baleno which is daily driven by my dad. While there are many dashcams available online, we were wondering whether there is any model sold as a Maruti Genuine Accessory?

Wanted to get the install done at the service center itself if such an option is available.

Any idea if I can remove the electrostatic sticker and put it on to another car and back ? Driving down to Bekal and hence want to remove the cam from my City and use it in my Creta during the trip. One back, I plan to switch it back to the City. Any suggestions since I dont want to invest in too many dash cams

Dashcam, being a plug and play device, doesn't need to be a MGA. Buying one at the dealer will not only restrict your choice but also will very likely be more expensive than buying it elsewhere. A dashcam doesn't require an install, unless you want to get it hardwired, which itself the dealer is unlikely to do. I don't know about Maruti but Tata dealers stock a Blaupunkt model as "recommended". That thing has terrible reviews.

There are tons of suggestions on this thread; decide one based on your budget and get it from Amazon/AliExpress. That'll work out much better.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

After reading numerous reviews online and in this thread, I got the BlueSkySea B1W dash cam for my Chrysler.

Pretty impressed with the 50$ cam. The video quality is really good and I like the subtle audio warnings when you start the car, which says 'SD card detected' and 'Recording started'. This kind of gives an assurance that there is no issue with the card or cam and it is working properly as intended.

Most cams stop working due to SD card error and the driver does not even realize it until he needs the footage.

Of course, the cam is really tiny in size and not noticeable when mounted on the windshield. There is no display, but the cam can be easily connected to your smart phone with WiFi and then you can use the display to adjust your cam as well as browse/download recorded videos and adjust cam settings.

I have mounted the cam with the provided double sided 3M tape and it is stuck on pretty well. I routed the really long cable through the windshield, the passenger side A pillar and from below the glovebox to the charging point in the centre console. The stick-on clips to route the cable in the car comes in the package, which is really nice & thoughtful.

A few clips from the cam (although slightly compressed and hence the quality is a tad better in real) -

Hi Guys,

Can anyone recommend a good place in Gurgaon to buy and install a dashcam in my Ford Endeavor. Tried searching, but could not find one.

Thanks in advance. Cheers

For my Endeavour, I bought Viofo A119 v3 2019(with hardwire kit and CPL) from Aliexpress for Rs.9500, which arrived in a month and I got it installed by Ford Accessory guy at the showroom.
Very neatly concealed and camera works great, much much better than Transcend DP220 in my XUV.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Looking for a good Dashcam which is reliable and long term usable. My budget is max 4000 and would prefer buying from Indian website.

Purpose is only to record (1080) and get it on the phone. Don't know what all other expensive ones have apart from these.

I just picked up this and got delivery yesterday.
https://www.amazon.in/dp/B07HN3TVJR/..._w3EgEb9VWHKB1

I liked this for it is compactness.
Only issue was when I was trying to connect it to the app since you need to enable device location for it to connect.

First impressions are good.
My previous one was a Blaupunkt 2.0 FHD which lasted close to 5 years. Hoping this will last more.

Thank you. Even I had an eye on this one. Waiting for the Amazon sale to begin on the 19th but don't have much expectation of the price to drop any further. At Rs. 3000/- it looks to be the best buy already.

What was the issue with the app connection? Does it auto switch on during a crash and what is the internal memory? How often we have to delete data to keep it recording?

It had dropped from 3.4k to 3k, so I doubt if it will drop again.

The app once installed won't detect the device and we have to manually choose the device from a model list in the app to connect. When chosen, it will take you to the wi-fi settings on the phone to connect. Once that is done and connected, it will still show as not connected in the app and again goes back to the same model list page. I thought it was an issue with IoS, but had the same issue on the Android. Googled and got a solution saying we need to enable to location settings to always for the device and it seemed to have worked.

-Internal memory should be very less since it mentions it can save just few photos.
-Every two weeks is what they recommend to format the card which can be done via the app or by pressing the button on the dashcam in a particular sequence.
-I don't think it switches on during a crash, but it saves the clip which cannot be overwritten if the dashcam was already recording.

Thank you so much. any other alternative you considered. Do not mind increasing the budget by say another 1000/- or else will go ahead with this one.

These are few I had in mind;

Blaupunkt BP 2.1 FHD Digital Video Recorder:
https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B07...WI0VEHLG&psc=1

Blaupunkt DVR BP 3.0 FHD/SOS/G-Sensor/GPS/HDMI/64GB Digital Video Recorder:
https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B06...OIHEPQGK&psc=1

70mai Smart Dash Cam Pro 1944P HD Camera IMX335 Sensor 140 Degree FOV Night Vision WiFi:
https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B07...DFHXWA1M&psc=1

The Blaupunkt 3.0 didn't have good reviews and 2.1 is more or less the same one as my old dashcam.
The 70mai 1944P was what I almost bought, but had extra features that I felt wasn't required.

I have been using this device for a month now and works well.
I didn't face any issue in connecting to the app.
The device starts recording video the moment you start the car, and continues till you turn of the power. You can set up the device to record as 1 minute, 2 minute or 3 minute videos. Whenever there is an unusual movement of the vehicle, say jumping over a pothole or a going over bad road, the device starts recording 30 seconds emergency video.
For storage, I have installed a 128GB memory card and can store videos around 3 weeks. The device works based on loop recording, meaning, the older videos and images get deleted automatically as memory gets full.

It says in the product description that the maximum supported memory card is 64GB. Your 128GB card is working fine?

Specs say that max supported card is 64GB, however 128 GB card works without any issues.
