It can be made smaller but there are limits. a larger box would also improve the sensitivity of the midbass.

if you want to make the box smaller use the T/S specs of the driver, plug in your expected F3 (how low you want to go) in a speaker box software and add 15% and you will get about the size you need.

Some good brand should come out with a nice SQ head unit with a seperate power supply, transport and DAC, with just a pre-amp with no more than tone controls (actually, not even that), volume control and a minimal display. Most importantly, at an affordable price, not like the Macintosh. That would be something. Money spent only where it's required.
well gurus..are any such HU's available... ... ??? well we can do without a separate DAC too.. jsut a plain vanilla HU with solid SQ...

Maybe Navinji can build us one in his spare time. As an added bonus, maybe he could incorporate a valve stage too. I witnessed some miscellaneous paraphrenelia waiting to go into some really solid valve amps for 220V use at his office the other day, maybe we could have a 12V version too, if we said please.

No that is different. There is atelast one HU that has a valve stage (made by Panasonic). And yes there is a plain vanilla HU out there but I wont spoil gunbir's surprise. he was nice enough to give me a preview. it (the surprise) should be his baby.

and before I get PMed let me say that anyone who PMs me about being let in might get shot.

The thing sure looks big and made my eyes go yelloweeeeee!!!

That tube looks quite lonely there. If it was in pair (yes 2 tubes), then it would get more luscious stares from men!! LOL

My guess is that the tube is either a magic eye or a dual triode.

fewer components required to do the same job. For example the tube amp that B&T saw under progress would have only 7 tubes (for a stereo amp) and a few other passive components is the audio chain. (OT) Since this amp is being used for a woofer-tweeter using a dual triode input (crosstalk city) is actually warranted. See sometimes a negative can be used as a positve.
