Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q!

Hello Fellow BHPians,

After being a silent follower of Team-BHP for over a decade, I’m thrilled to finally be a part of this amazing community! I recently got my hands on a pre-loved 2021 Hyundai Creta MPI MT SX, and I couldn’t be more excited to share my experience and hear your thoughts
.
Here’s the story behind it: I had been eyeing an automatic car for some time, but fate had other plans. My uncle, who’s now retired and moving abroad, offered me his Creta at a deal too good to pass up. The car had barely done 7,000 km, and he was keen for it to stay in the family. At ₹8 lakhs, I couldn’t say no—it felt like a steal! But did I make the right choice, I don’t know? Would love your input.

Now, while I absolutely love driving this machine, there are a couple of things that just don’t do justice to the overall experience. First up: the headlights—I find them underwhelming, especially during night drives. Secondly, the speakers—oh boy, what a letdown. I’m no audiophile, but the factory sound system is so mediocre that it ruins the vibe every time I turn up the volume.

Here’s where I need your advice:
1.Speaker Upgrade: I’m planning to upgrade the front speakers first (the rear can wait since it’s just my 9-month-old baby chilling back there). I’ve heard good things about the Sony XS series—has anyone tried them? Will they pair well with the stock system, or should I be considering something else? I don’t want to replace the head unit, and my budget is around ₹20k for the front speakers. Recommendations for reliable auto parts stores in Bangalore would also be super helpful.

I’m looking forward to hearing from fellow Creta owners and audio enthusiasts.
Thanks in advance,

Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q!

First of all congratulations on your new ride and "steal deal" is an understatement for 8L!!

I have a similar model Creta and completely agree on your opinion of the factory sound setup.

Even I embarked on the upgrade journey when I first bought the car in 2018 and did the upgrade in phases - changed everything but the HU.

You have a decent budget and are doing the right thing to start off with the Front Speakers. I did the same and took the other steps in phases spread over couple of years - you can really feel the difference each step makes.

Flip side - when you sit in another Creta/any other car with stock audio - you are grinning

I would suggest, if you have time in hand, do an audition of various Speakers in that price range before you take a decision. Sound signatures are different for each make and you will know what you like best only when you hear it.

I got my setup done at EVO Custom Car Audio https://g.co/kgs/U9U2qUP
Satya the owner there is an expert and has been doing this for more than a decade. He will be able to suggest options to best suit your taste.

Congrats on the purchase. You've got a great deal.

Check with plug-and-play speakers with installers. Make sure they pair well with the stock head unit. This budget you'll get both front and rear. Go for damping if you can stretch.

Good luck.

Thanks for the response, yes I am thinking of damping as well, can stretch the budget for that.

Thanks for the reply, I checked my call logs and I already connected with them on Nov 2. Will definitely try them out.

Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q!

Hello TBHP ICE Gurus!

As some of you might know that I am driving a 5th Gen City ZX, which comes with 8 speakers (4 tweeters+ 4 door mounted speakers) set up. Stock set up is just ok but I miss the mids and warm music tone. The richness of music is lost in this set up. Although bass is fine but the warmth of mid frequencies and clarity is missing. I don't want to change the HU and avoid adding any amp as well. Also, I don't need thumping bass.

I am planning to upgrade only the speakers. What I have also noticed by using fader control is that 75% of the music is driven by the front door speakers only where as the rear speakers have much lower volume and overall impact in the sound.

What I have planned for now is to change the front components to the shortlisted option as under. Of course open for suggestions:

1. Morel Maximo 6. (Rs. 6.2K)
2. Infinity Alpha 650C (Rs. 5.3K)
3. Infinity Reference 6530 (Rs. 8.6K)
4. Polk 6502 DB+ Series
5. JL Audio (~9K)

* All amazon prices. How is the sound signature of Infinity Alpha 650C as the price looks sweet and is available on Amazon.

Also I plan to move the stock front door speakers to the rear door as front speakers are somewhat better than the rear ones. Do you guys think it is a good solution in budget?

I am not very keen on getting doors damped as I am not very sure of the quality of work here. Most of the guys here handle even the delicate stuff quite rough so as to show that they are experts and they know everything inside out. For eg. they folded the fiber trim on my fog lamps to check the size of the fogs and this trim has now a permanent crack mark.

Please advise.

Thanks.

Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q!

I have a 2016 Scorpio, with 6 inch speakers mounted on the rear door from factory. Recently, the plastic grill on one of the speakers broke, and so I would like to change both speakers out for something better. I have zeroed in on Infinity Alpha 6520F 320W and plan to do the installation myself.

I have a few questions regarding this and would appreciate some advice if possible:

1) The stock connector on the speaker harness looks like this:

On the factory speaker, the corresponding connector looks like this:

Does anyone know where I can get a small harness with a matching connector to connect the new speaker to the factory wiring, with a blade connector on the other end to connect to the speaker itself? If not, what is the name of the connector I should be looking for?

2) The new speakers do not have any grills/covers on them. In fact I could hardly find any 6 inch speakers that come with grills/covers. There is a cutout in the door card which the speaker will fit into, it will not be behind the door card like on traditional car doors. Is it ok to leave the speaker naked? If not, where can I get matching speaker grills from?

The original speaker:

The new speaker:

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Dear Saket,

First of all choosing the right speakers that go well with the stock headunit is not a straighup internet find. Its very hard to comeby good drivers with reasonable cone movement with the signal and power from stock headunit.

My installer recommends Ousail F165 component speakers. Exceptional quality and we felt a subwoofer was installed however there wasnt even an amp, just direct connection from a Pioneer Headunit.

Motorconcept Delhi sells Audiocircle entry level components as plug and play, lets say the Old Rainbow. Havent heard them but the brand is good.

Steg Leo 650c was the old player in plug and play. However gone bit behind and the Ousails are far superior.

Budget around 10K for a set. Focus on Damping and front speakers.
You can but Morel Damping from Motorogue.

Thank you for the post and the suggestions. Unfortunately before I could check your recommendations, I went ahead and got a pair of Morel components installed at the front. I will post more about it soon on this thread.

Thanks.

Re: Car Audio Advice from the Audio Gurus: Use "Search thread" before posting a new Q!

Folks - I'm looking at a minor, call it stage 1 audio upgrade for my Taigun. I have short listed a direct plug and play upgrade from Focal, the IS VW 165 & IC VW 165 as an upgrade. Please not that I'm not an audiophile, some of my co- travellers are. I am not planning on any other changes apart from additionally damping the car to aid the plug and play swap.

I have been told that morel speakers could be better for my sensitive ears that focal but what do I know. Is there an equivalent morel set available as direct plug and play for Taigun?

Please suggest what else should I be careful about, when going ahead?

I spend some more time looking at what else could be a direct plug and play upgrade and the following came up. Still looking for some advice and suggestions on how to go about it.

Blam Express 165 ES and 165 EC
Morel Kinetic 602 and 602 C
Morel Kinetic 602 HE and 602 C

Why dont you contact @audiophyle Kannur or Motobeat Kochi regarding the same. You can contact them via insta.

Personally not a fan of both series. Better try morels which are not Made in China thats my opinion. The higher varients are power hungry too.

This will be sufficient also for your usage.

Thank you brother! I did not know something like this exists in Kannur. Makes it easier to just visit them when I go home for Vishu, Next month. Checked their IG. Looks like they also do the full load of work including damping. Would you recommend doing it? Giving these folks a call in a while.

Also thanks you for the recommendations. Seems apt for what I need. Not too hard on the pocket as well.
