KB,just another thing to add to what tsk n Samurai said, be your own criticizer. Give a hard look at your photographs, criticize it, think if you really like it. Be honest to yourself. If you don't like it, just trash the photograph and try again. That'll help.[ Digital is really good for this learning period, I remember how hard it was when I started with film cameras] Keep on shooting as much as you can. You'll fail, once, twice, may be hundredth of time but you'll get there with the 101st.
And the first thing in photography is Composition, if composition is good then you've crossed the first hurdle. As someone knowledgeable said it before, "Learn to see first" and then shoot. A technically perfect photo with bad composition is just another file for the recycle bin.
Regards,
Kaushik

Hey KB,
Check here, The Luminous Landscape Tutorials contents .. Check the chapters like "Understanding Exposure", "Understanding Light" etc.
Photography Techniques here also you can find some good tips.

And if you can find then buy a few photography books nothing can beat it, I always hold books as better teachers/guides then the net. For starters check for "Learning to see Creatively- Bryan Patterson" for compositions, "Understanding Exposure-BP" or "A-Z of Creative Photography - Lee Frost" .
And probably the best till date I've read "Nature Photography Field Guide - John Shaw". And the best thing about books is that the photographs there will always inspire you to go out and click.
All the best and hope to see some nice photographs from you soon.
Regards,
Kaushik
PS: I think you are already member of few online photography forums, search them also for these topics.

Here is another one of mine. I know there are small composition issues but the problem is more architectural! Fooled around a little with the curves etc.

Comments pls

my first real effort with photoshop. I like to think that i retrieved an image that was useless because I had taken the shot with the sun glaring right at the camera.

used the levels tool only.

in the original image the sky was plain white with no details.

Breathaking Rippergeo, Looks like you have really mastered PS. What is that red glow at the bottom of the image? Also, the trees would have looked great if there was a bit of green in them. Now its completely black

I have not mastered PS. thats why the trees are black. but excluding the trees from the layer work would have got the sky patchy. this was the best i could do. experts could do better.

the red glow at the bottom is the lens artifact from the direct sunlight.
forgot about that
