Xbox live is going to be launched in India on November 5th. Anyone up for some online gaming after that?

You could play on LIVE in India but you would have to register yourself as a US user, however now you can just go to any 360 retailer and get a legit account made.

What about PSN? Have you connected your PS3 to the net?

PSN I hear is pretty good, however haven't had the time to get a decent internet connection in my area - as I do all of my work from my laptop using the airtel edge/gprs card. This is ok for connecting to office for work and downloading the occassional prezo, however the moment I connected it to PS3 and enabled internet sharing, things got really slow and PS3 kept getting logged out of PSN so i took the hint and decided to stay off PSN till I get a decent internet connection

yeah those are the links - theres also a customs duty chapter on this page Customs Tariff 2006-07 - CBEC which talks about how much duty is levied on each electronic article which exceeds 25k.

I always carry a copy of that on my laptop, incase i need to throw it in the face of the customs officers when I land in India. This is useful when they are trying to make you pay for something when you dont have to

Thanks antoni for posting those linkies!!

I am planning on getting either the 360 or PS3 in couple of months.
I have been gaming on the XBOX for the past 4 years & its one sturdy machine but reading the number of ring of deaths on the 360, I am very apprehensive about spending so much money on it.
This is when I started looking at the PS3.

Has anyone on this board had problems with their 360?

^^ Iv not had any problems with my 360 so far, but the 360 does have a LOT of overheating issues which are resolved to a certain extent in the newer consoles.

I've had no probs on my xbox360 and none on my PS3 either. Both the xbox360 and PS3 had heating issues earlier, but the newer consoles have none. Remember to get the new gen xbox360 (maybe elite) or the 80gb PS3 (not 60gb) to avoid running into heating issues.

Since I've had both consoles, I can say both are pretty awesome - just finished a weekend of non stop gaming and halo 3 on xbox360 is awesome and so is resistance fall of man and stranglehold on PS3

Both consoles also have a pretty good online experience, though I like the look and feel of the paid xbox live, PSN is pretty good for a free service

So bottomline you'll be pretty happy with whatever you pick xbox360 or PS3 and theres a huge number of titles up for release on both consoles for xmas season!!

The problem is that they seem to be selling old stock in India. The 80GB ps3s aren't even available here - which means that any improvements to the hardware in terms of newer batches is slow to trickle into India.

The only reason to buy a next-gen console in India is the warranty. And with the failure rates, that's a very important consideration (unfortunately).

The PS3 has a pretty low failure rate, I read somewhere that its under 5% so feel free to buy the console from abroad.

With the 360 however Id reccomend a warranty.
