Thanks for the quick responses. And I did do a search on T-BHP and got the answer from earlier posts (as usual). I think we should consider splitting this thread.... it clearly looks like Pana plasma deserves it's own thread.

Anyone using a normal DVD player should change their video output preferences to Progressive scan and 16:9 ratio if you have a 42. Component cable is essential in these cases. The picture quality is amazing. Watched Transformers and Monsters Inc and it was really very good.

What should be the general settings (ratio's) of the contrast to brightness to color i.e. which should be more and which should be less? Even I'm also having a 42PV80D and am unable to get the perfect picture settings. I also have Airtel DTH. Just curious to know the preferences. I know this changes from person to person, but in general which should be having a higher value than the other?

I have not tried yet, but looking at the settings from Setup Menu, there is no option to set "Picture Overscan" in 42PV80D which we have.

I guess Picture Overscan is present in the AV mode that too via component out mode. I'm not too sure as I remember seeing it on my 42PV80D.

The offer is also available on all LG plasmas.
The LG 42PG21 plasma is being sold for 49.9k with the HD upscaling DVD player, 50 DVD titles and an HDMI cable free (I think this is under exchange with a working 21" CRT with a functional remote).
The offer is pretty tempting actually, but I'm pretty sold on the Panny 42PV8/80

Just connected my Laptop to the 42PV80. It shows as 800*600. If I change it to something else it becomes too small for viewing. Anyone figured out a way for this?

As someone said we probably need to have a separate thread for the Panny. :-)

@Selective, change the aspect ratio to 16:9 then Picture Overscan would be enabled .

With Tata Sky, I have optimised (well almost) my PV8's Contrast/Brightness/Color as 52/45/30 for evening viewing and 58/50/28 for daylilght viewing. PNR works best in OFF mode
The settings will also vary according to source signal and even programming content and ofcourse personal preferences.

not much, a increase of about 200 to 600 depending on the slab. (AP has a slab system, where-in the rates the diff for the amount of power consumtion.)

picked up a 19" T-series for misc usage, got it for 16.5k. initial impression of the lcd is good. doesnt support more that 1024*786 for pc input.
