I have seen the images from a friend's camera(but not the camera itself) and it seems like pretty good value for money camera. I say if you are looking one for general use, go for it!

I too have a option of canon SX20, but it seems much more expensive than this model at $360/-. Let me know your thoughts on SX20.

SX200 of the list. I've seen what this camera can do and have been impressed.

However, since you have a budget of 26K, why not go for the Panasonic Lumix LX3 instead? If you want to borrow my LX3 and play with it for some time, feel free to borrow anytime.

I would suggest the Panasonic FZ35. Owning the FZ28 myself, I hear that an already excellent allrounder has become even better.

Wide angle, long telephoto and excellent movie capturing capabilities make it the best of the superzooms.

The LX3 produces better pictures but the sheer versatility of the FZ35 makes it the perfect camera for casual photographers.

+1 ^^

I too own a Panasonic DMC FZ28 and I am sure that FZ35 will be even better. My friend recently bought one for USD 319 and got it delivered to a common friend in US and he will be getting it in hand next week.

Hi,

I own Panasonic FZ35. I would says its one of the best cam available in the market. You wont regret on your purchase. I have got it from US for 303.63$.

The HD video recording is mind blowing clear and crisp. Some times there is a AF issue at full zoom during recording. The Picture sometimes goes out of focus. This is negligible in day to day life snap shots.

I am attaching few pics for your ref.
1) Macro Mode
2) Night mode
3) in low Light

Hey so finally did manage to get hold of the LX3. Where did you get it from. Do let us know the price you paid for it and a small review of the camera. So does the camera live upto the expectations which has been built up.

Was delivered to my office yesterday from a Panasonic distributor. Price 29,500 + 500 for a 4 GB card (2 GB standard + 4 GB card = 6 GB to shoot cars!). With proper bill and 3 year warranty.

typically the quality of the lens is determined by the quality of the glass used and the ammount of glass (elements) used.

a good prime (fixed focal length) lens will typically have 6-7 elements of glass each element having a specific purpose. A zoom lens (3x or 5x) will have about twice that number (of elements) and longer (10x +) zooms might have 3 times that number of elements.

Not all zoom lenses are created equal.
lets comapre a canon 70-300/4.5-5.6 IS vs the 70-200/2.8 IS

the 70-300 has 15 elements the 70-200 has 23 elements

So since the 70-200 has more elements it would imply that the light has to pass through more glass and hence the 70-200 would be the inferior lens.

Right? ......No wrong!

The elements used in the 70-200 are of much higher quality and many of the elements used are "corrective" elements instered to correct for difraction and other anamolies created by the "active" elements.

A simple but maybe more accurate way of generalising which lens is better might be by comparing the weight of the lens and the diameter of the elements. While there are always exceptions to this rule (and prime lenses cannot be compared to zoom lenses just like 3 or 5x zooms cannot be compared to the super 10x ot 15x zooms) these parameters (weight and dia) are more liable to give you an approximate idea as the quality of the lens.

hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Picked up a Canon SX200 Powershot for 16k (unofficial) with a 8Gb memory card. This camera seemed the best value for money and the video recording seems to be nice.
