Re: The iPhone Thread

One of my friend wanted to buy a 7 plus matt black 128gb but sadly it's not available anywhere. Anyone knows what could be the reason?

Re: The iPhone Thread

I was on the lookout for a back cover which retained the Apple logo and the written section on the bottom half of the rear of my 7 Plus. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any such item anywhere. Only option left was to get a transparent back cover, but I don't like their looks.

After poring through numerous other back cover options and also plenty of tempered glass screen protectors, finally zeroed in on two choices which caught my fancy on Amazon.

They arrived yesterday.

1) A dual layer back cover case with Black + Red combo

Very snug fit. Top and bottom gold metal clips clicked into place without any gaps whatsoever. Feels sturdy enough, and gives off a premium, classy vibe to an already super-classy phone.

2) Premium Tempered Glass Screen Protector

This package came with 3 wipes - a wet one, a dry one & a separate glass cleaner wipe, a manual with instructions on how to fit the glass, a set of stickers to be used as a guide for fixing, a contest leaflet, and a discount leaflet.

Size is probably a wee bit smaller than what I would have liked as ideal, but no complaints. Also, while fixing, the glass shifted slightly to the left. I didn't remove and re-fix it again, for fear of it either breaking or not sticking properly the second time.

The left side is sticking out. Use a cellotape to lift it and readjust. The sooner you do it, the less chances of it breaking. After a while the glass settles firmly and would be difficult to remove.

Nope, it's not sticking out. From the image, it may seem so but it's well inside the edge.

I would like to know if you happen to have used the free Jio sim given along with your iPhone in JioFi hotspot. I am planning to do so and use my regular sim in the new iPhone and make most of the free 4G LTE through the hotspot. As per plans listed here by Jio, we can get 40GB/month through hotspot. But, I was informed in one of the shops that Jio sim has to be used in iPhone little confused here.
The cashback offers have changed over time, have no idea about the current offers.

The Jio sim which is also given free with the purchase of an iPhone is activated immediately if you carry your Adhar card. This Jio sim is free if used with a new iPhone purchase till 31st December 2017. Yes, 31st December 2017. That is probably why the shopkeeper mentioned it has to be used with an iPhone.

This scheme should still be on, do check with the Reliance Digital sales person during your purchase.

I have never used the Jio sim, sold my iPhone 7 on 28th October and bought the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Pretty happy with my decision so far.

All the best with your new toy

Cheers

Yes they have, currently cashback is only 7k.

That answers it. I will use the sim with JioFi hotspot device, thanks.

I Hope you know the 40GB/month is for public WiFi Hotspot, i.e, you can use up to 40GB/month by connecting to public WiFi's of Jio by using JioNet. You'll get 20GB/month & unlimited at night as regular data. No, you don't need the sim to be in your iPhone. Just download JioNet from App Store and login with your Jio ID to avail access to public WiFi.
Yes, I figured it after digging about JioNet. I asked about 40GB/month question in 2 different Reliance stores. No satisfactory answer, they are kind of clueless as what it is. As I put it in my previous post, one of these so called sales folks told me that free sim provided with iPhone with 1 year free voice/data must be used only with iPhone to avail the offer which is obviously not true!! I just clarified again through my brother with a Jio distributor. I guess sales reps at these fancy stores are no better or worse than our car sales guys.

I did but that 2k is for iPad Mini 2 16GB Wifi only, please correct me if I am wrong. I would like minimum of 32GB Mini 4, for which I will have to shell out another 14k.

Still thinking about it though

I was a long time Apple user and even with the 7 there was really nothing new in the phone since the last 3 years. To put it simply very very boring phone, nothing to personalize or do. Was fed up and decided to move on.

Cheers

To answer your Jio usage with another phone, I would advise against it. Jio's website had the whole TnC of the scheme when it went live, but that is gone now for some reason.
That clearly mentioned that the benefits would be applicable only if the Sim was being used in the iPhone that it is bought with(Basically the barcode that generates).
Right now, you wont get to know since the Jio offer is already extended till 31st march for all phones. The apple plan would start only after that. I have an iPhone 7 in the family too and Jio customer care also advised me against using it in another phone. BTW, Jio quality has improved a lot and calls are pretty good too now. Try it out for a few days.

On a different note, I need some input here guys. I was planning to buy iPhone 7/7 plus and it seems I may be able to buy one from abroad. Has anyone had any experience claiming iPhone warranties for foreign bought handsets? I know Apple doesn't tout international warranty, but as I have seen, Apple only checks whether the Warranty coverage is still appliccable(As per purchase date) and whether the model is serviceable in the region (Basically if the Model Number A1XXX can be serviced in india), because the Apple india helpline told me that.
Would really appreciate any community experiences

I go my 6 plus and 6s both from US, and while I never had any need for warranty for my 6 plus it was a little different with 6s. Within a month it's screen was dead and upon taking to the service center the guy refused to fix it due to warranty not being applicable in India. Visited US a couple of weeks later and they replaced it with a new one for free, no question asked. I'd suggest if it will be feasible in the future for you to visit wherever you get your iPhone from only then go for it.

Thanks for the prompt reply, if it is possible, could you tell the model no. of the 6S you have? It would be written on the back A16XX. I can ask apple india if they support that model or not?

It's A1633. A1784 for 7 plus, which I also bought from US, just in case you need.

Thank you so much.

The A1633 is different from the one sold in India. So I believe that was the reason why they refused service.

But the A1784 is the same model as that in India. If you ever need service in India, I believe they would be able to do it since it is serviceable here and it will be covered in warranty if it's within one year. Do check with apple care India if you get a chance.

Thanks a ton.

Actually, a friend of mine did. He was refused for any warranty claims too. Apparently, it's not the model number but the serial number they check to see where the product's warranty is applicable for any warranty claim/services. They won't even care even if you're jailbroken and offer warranty assistance as long as the product is valid for warranty claims for its region.

I have a 6 Plus from US with Apple Care for an extended year. Recently I dropped my phone rather violently and because it had a rubber backed case, it didn't break. However one or two calls I was hearing tinny sound from the speaker. So I took it to an Apple Store. I told him I have Apple care and he tried checking the status in their system. It was showing as a serial number that is a RMA piece. That is, it should be with Apple and not with a customer. However he still ran speaker and audio tests on it free for me and told me there is no sound issue. He told me to speak to Apple and when I did, they told me to contact the store of purchase in the US, as Apple phone support were seeing the same information of the RMA. I spoke to the store in US and the manager there did some digging and told me that this is a mistake that some service center has entered my serial number against an RMA that they did and that Apple can and should correct this. I decided to drop the matter and to just replace the phone whenever I am in the US as there is no real issue with my piece. I think the Apple warranty for an international purchase may work and it could be at the discretion of store perhaps.
