Re: The Windows Phone Thread

Guys need urgent help,
The lock screen button on my L520 has gone bust. Does anyone have any idea how much this is going to cost to get it fixed. My phone is under warranty. I am not sure I ll get warranty coverage. Switch has gone inside somehow. :O

Re: The Windows Phone Thread

There is no end to woes.
Just now observed that when on autoupdate - the phone shows AbuDhabi/Muscat as the time zone!!! Even after manually changing it and reverting to auto umpteen number of times ...

Had a similar issue on my friend's HTC WP7. They replaced the switch under warranty. Even otherwise, it shouldn't be a high cost item.

BTW, till you get time to take it to Nokia care, you can use the camera button as a workaround to wake up the phone.
  1. Press and hold the camera button to start the camera
  2. Press back button
  3. You'll reach the lock screen just like you would have when you press the power button

If the phone gets switched off, plug in the charger and you'll have the phone turned on.

EDIT: BTW, my friend used this workaround for almost an entire year before he got time to repair it

Doesn't the L520 have double tap on screen to wake up? I think it does, though I am not sure.

Edit: Just checked, the L520 does not have the double tap to wake.

Re: The Windows Phone Thread

I had very high expectations with the Amber update, especially the tape to wake feature. Felt disgusted when, i came to know that its not enabled on the 520. Yeah, that is exactly what i am doing now as a workaround. Thanks.

Re: The Windows Phone Thread

is the lumia 520 good for usage which includes calls, emails, Whatsapp (a lot) and facebook.

I won't play any games because I have an iPod touch 4g for that.

Main reason I want to get rid of my android is because it hangs a lot even in basic usage like this and it becomes really irritating at times.

The L520 is more than enough for this kind of usage.

Re: The Windows Phone Thread

Trying to use the Call Block feature on Nokia Lumia 925 (NL925). It seems the numbers can be added individually to the call block register. But there is no option of pattern kind of blocking i.e. number starts with, number ends with and contains number, etc. which is present in Note 2 and other android phones.

Eg: If I want to block all the calls starting with +91140 etc. which are generally marketing calls, I cannot do so in NL925. I need to block each number separately.

Is there any way by which we can get such facility for blocking numbers in NL925. Thanks.

Any idea if HTC has any such feature? I'm okay even with the above limitation. Something is better than nothing!

Finally got the phone back on Saturday, seven days after handing it over to Nokia care, Jaipur. The Nokia care took their own sweet time in ordering the part and replacing it.

On inspection initially, they declared that only the screen needed replacement.

Total expenditure, INR 6700.

Yes it should be good for this usage. My wife has this for the last 5 months and the usage is exactly the same as you have mentioned... The battery lasts for nearly two days and the phone hasn't hung till date. Touch wood

Re: The Windows Phone Thread

Happy New Year, guys!!

I'm a bit confused between L925 and Nexus4. At the price point, L925 (Rs.27999/-) is almost 3.5K costlier than Nexus4 (Rs.24499/-). However, L925 has a 1GB RAM as compared to Nexus which boasts of 2GB RAM. Also, L925 has a dual-core processor whereas its a quad-core processor in Nexus.

On the positive side, L925 boasts of a superb camera and build quality.

Personally, I like WP8 phone as I have been using Android for quite sometime now and am impressed by WP8s and its styling.

Flipkart is offering a 10% off on HDFC card only till today. So, it will be great if you can help me out here ASAP.

Cheers!

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I have made my choice then.
Are there any other known issues with the 520?
