If front camera is important, probably the Lumia 625 may not be a good choice. I don't know about the other Lumia models, but only gripe I have with my 625 is the below par experience with the front camera.

Re: The Windows Phone Thread

720 IS being withdrawn from the markets. It went out of stock on many e-tailers last week and many brick and mortar stores as well. Currently its in the "if you want, I can call and get you a piece" mode.

Before I discovered the email attachment issue, I had almost placed the order for it - found the stocks disappearing last week. Univercell and poorvika claimed stockouts.

Also reflected in rising prices for 720. In Nov, the black was quoting 15K online. On Amazon, the black is now 18.6K with only 2 left in stock.

Re: The Windows Phone Thread

Yes. Seems they are withdrawing it from market. I called up 3 Mobile shops and of that, 2 said OUT OF STOCK and 1 claimed he has 3 pcs left. 2 x Black & 1 x White. He said company isnt dispatching new stocks. ₹18k.

I feel the 725 "story" MIGHT be true. Even this guy said that MAY BE Nokia is launching an upgraded model of 720 and hence the stock shortage.

Now i am not sure weather i should buy the Lumia 720 for dad or just wait for a couple of more days?

That dimension is exactly same as 720, yet the display size jumps from 4.3 to 5 inch?

No idea about dimension of 720, it might be possible that either dimension or screen size is wrongly posted in website. Need to verify the same from other sources.

The following website also mentions dimension of 9mm x 67.5mm x 127.9 mm along with 5 inch screen.

Went phone shopping in the evening. After comparing various phones from HTC Samsung etc Dad ended up buying the 720. He is very happy with the form factor and the screen size and everything else so far. Yet to understand and explore the phone properly. Paid 17800/-. Exchanged his Lumia 710 and got 4000/- for it. I am not sure if its less or decent but we didn't want to go store to store checking best buy back price as the 710 was purchased way back in Dec 2011 and we had used it up pretty well.

Thanks all for the valuable inputs.

Regards,

I have the 710 and would like to know if it is worth while switching to 720. Any comparisons would be welcome.

As noted above, 720 could soon be replaced by 725.
720 itself is a great piece of hardware.

Below are a few points which made my dad move from 710 to 720. But again, he isn't a power user types so Ram, Processor etc was not as imp to him. Smooth UI and stuff like that mattered more to him.

Things better in 720 over 710 :

Screen, camera rear + front, battery, os, gorilla glass.

About 2 years ago we paid around 16-17k for Lumia 710 and today we paid almost the same for Lumia 720. I am happy to have found a phone in the set budget. Yet to test its claimed better battery life as since last night we have only been setting it up. So actual results would come out only after a couple of days of useage once the honeymoon period is over.

Re: The Windows Phone Thread

Has any of you guys tried connecting the windows phone to the car via usb? In the past, I have connected Android/Blackberry/Apple (requires a different usb cable) - they have worked fine as the stereo detects the phone as a memory source. But the same is not happening for a WP - can't find anything online if there is a separate cable required for it.

P.s. My car doesn't have bluetooth functionality.

WP doesn't play music over USB yet. WP7 could do it with a hack, but sadly that hack doesn't work on WP8. If you car has a stereo line in port then you can take an output from the headphone port, but I have no idea how this will behave with incoming calls.

For those interested WP now has an official Auto Expo 2014 app.

All that I use in the 710 is the phone and camera. The rest is of not much use to me. In fact I do not even need the second camera.

If I am not wrong the 710 came with a gorilla glass too. In Feb'13, I paid Rs.15,240/ for my 710 in Delhi.

The 710 did not come with Gorilla Glass.
