I was in the same dilemma as you a couple of weeks back. Needed to buy my wife a new phone and had narrowed it down to these two. Chose the Xperia ZR in the end since the glass back of the Nexux 4 is susceptible to shattering when dropped (the phone is sure to be dropped ). If I was buying a phone for myself in that price bracket, I would have chosen the Nexus 4 because of stock Android and timely updates.

Will prefer Android. No windows phones please.
The S3 is available for 24.5k on Flipkart if you're interested.

Any feedback around these or any other option?

Thanks!
Can't offer specific feedback since I don't use either of these, but just pointers/opinion:

IMHO, any one would do. However two features might be helpful:
1> Quick initial charge, wherein ~80% charging would take place quite quickly.

2> Retractable mechanism so that t doesn't become a wired mess in your car.

Ok guys think slowly. My wife is nearing 50. Her life revolves around the school PTA and lots of messages (whatsapp, sms, email) and photos.

Her current phone is a Nokia E7 and is giving up. What phone would you suggest. HTC 1, Samsung S4, iPhone 5? Or should we wait for the 5S?

When is the 5S expected in India?

Not sure about the launch of iPhone 5S, but from the current lot I would recommend the iPhone 5. It’s a perfect fit for the requirements you mentioned.

Thanks. Wife too is leaning towards the iPhone since she already has an iPad and an iPod Touch.

Have you considered a Windows phone? My guess is that having used a Nokia before, she would like a Lumia, and the Windows OS and UI is something she might appreciate - getting her work done quickly and without any fuss.

No. I have a Lumia 920 and apart from the camera, I don't like much around. You still can't search texts, some HTML rich emails won't load, there's no native apps for Facebook, twitter, dropbox, etc., and the list goes on. Any app that releases, releases only for the android and the iPhone. If you are used to the iPad, and the iPod touch, just close eyes and go for the iPhone .

I am looking to buy a new/used Nokia 3310. Any pointer where I can get it in India specifically New Delhi or online?

One has been taken care by Carboy.
For the second aspect: why dropbox?
There is skydrive for you. Which offers more features than dropbox!

I hear the same lament about Instagram.
What is so great about Instagram?

Looks like propaganda talk against windows OS.
It is not really intelligent to say "I hate hotmail simply because it doesn't offer me gmail ID."

Facebook app. Made by Microsoft corporation. That's the problem I have.
Why isn't the Publisher: Facebook Inc.? I can't get the optimised news feed, I can't tag people in comments, I can't save photos that I open, the list is endless. Ok that's just an app. I can't blame wp8 for that.

@alpha1 searching texts is a very basic operation. I need not be a lover or hater of windows phone to point that out. Search if its not implemented in today's smartphone, how will you find information. On more than two occasions, I've struggled for more than 5 minutes to find an SMS that my bank sent.

And I mark at least 4 to 5 HTML rich emails as unread to go back home and read it on the iPad or on the laptop. Because they simply won't load on wp8. Haven't had this problem in any other OS on a mobile that I've used.

What exactly is the problem with the App itself outside of the publisher.

The twitter app's publisher is Twitter Inc - what's the problem with that?

Sadly, the Exchange Mail app in my Android searches only through the Subject line of my downloaded emails.
