When I look at your original post; lokks like this one satisfies your demands.
No symbian. Just perfect for your requirements.
That's a great recommendation. I went through many reviews of this phone and it fits my need perfectly. Now I remember checking out this phone seriously long before, but it was not released then.

The mistake I made with N73 was that it was a impulsive buy. I went to the dealer after researching E60 for many months, when I saw the size of E60, I instantly rejected it. But then the dealer pulled a sales job on me with the newly released N73. It looked so great and I was on a rebound from E60, so I bit the bullet. This time I am not compromising on my needs. I don't need a smartphone.

If anybody has bad experience with Z710i, please let me know. And I am not interested in the W710i variant. What's the price of Z710i in Bangalore?

Thanks to info from all, I am happy with my E50. I downloaded a software for auto keypad lock.

I have a peculiar problem. I hear a echo on the calls. It is acute when the volume setting is on high. Disappears when the call volume is set low. Please help.

Went to the mobile shop and checked out Z710i plastic model, they didn't have the phone in stock. But they had Z550i in stock, and it is cooler than Z710i and has most of the features. Seriously checking out Z550i now. No EDGE, just GPRS. BTW, prices I got was 10.7K for Z710i and 7.5K for Z550i.

@Samurai : I would prefer the Z710i for the Z550i. Here are some good to know's before you choose between them

______________ Z710i__________W550i
-----------------------------------------
Weight________101g____________93g

Camera________2 MP__________ 1.3MP

memory_____10MB inbuilt__ 20 MB inbuilt
___________ 64MB card____

Infra red______Yes______________ No

Ringtone____72 channel____ 40 channel

Battery______ 10 Hrs__________ 5 Hrs
backup
-----------------------------------------

The z710i also has a big external display and also has music control buttons in the front. It looks modern when compared to the outdated design of the Z550i. To me it looks like the Z710i is more value for money.
But opinion differs...my advice is apart from the features hold the phone in your hand and see which one is comfortable for you to open and speak...

Also have a look at W610...It looks cute and professional.

Lighter is better.

I prefer using my dSLR for any photography. For emergencies any camera would do, so 1.3MP is just fine.

Both are insufficent, I need to upgrade to 512MB by chucking out 64MB card.

IR connection is very slow, so I prefer cable or BT anyday.

I only use MP3 ringtone, so polyphonic doesn't matter.

So I'll charge more often, that's fine. I don't talk too much on cellphone, may be 5 hours a week.

Now this will be a problem for me. I want smallest possible external display and no buttons on the outside that can get pressed in a tight pocket. That makes Z550i more attractive than Z710i in my case.

I find the plain looks of 550i more attractive than the colorful Z710i, probably because I am old. Also Z710i is 30% larger than Z550i, and you know I need much smaller phone, I give the maximum weightage to that.

Navin, thanks for the detailed comparision. I did the same thing yesterday. I am not swayed by mere features, this time I only looked at benefits, to me. I should have remembered this while buying N73 six months back, my usual mantra at work, while buying any product don't be fooled by features, consider only the benefits.

Guys, here is a serious advice from me. Don't be fooled by feature list while buying any product, car or mobile. See what is really useful to you and apply your individual weightage to each feature. Then make your decision.

Anyway, I bought the Z550i yesterday for 7.5K, 2K more for 512MB memory and 750 for data cable. So far it looks perfect, I can't believe I paid 25K for N73 six months back when all I needed was something this simple and cheap.

My original plan was to pass off the N73 to my wife. Today when my wife saw my Z550i, she was floored. Now she doesn't want to upgrade from her tiny Nokia 6100 to bulky N73, instead she wants a Z550i too, in copper color of course. Looks like I have to sell it now, may be go for an exchange deal.

I tried to find out the resale price of 5 month old N73. Since it is in mint condition, one shop gave me an offer of 12K. The original shop where I bought it, gave me 9K offer and only on exchange.

That's like 52% to 64% depreciation in 5 months, I bought it for 25K. Now the normal N73 costs 19K and Music Edition (with 2GB) is 22K. Looks like Nokia itself is depreciating their products by these price cuts.

This is a real lesson for me, I don't think I'll buy newly released phones that are priced above 15K anymore. The price sinks like Titanic within months. What a ripoff.

Well .. the strategy is called "market skimming" - studied about it once upon a time .. especially prevalent in case of mobile phone companies to seduce rich dudes like yourself

Also, Sony is an often quoted subscriber to this strategy.

You may refer the definition below if you find the time/inclination

Market Skimming - a pricing approach whereby the producer sets a high introductory price to attract buyers with a strong desire for, and the resources to buy, the product; then gradually reducing the price to attract subsequent layers of the market

its the opposite of amarket penetration strategy whereby a manufacturer sets a relatively low price for a product in the introductory stage of its life cycle with the intention of building market share.

Manveet, thanks for the brush up. I too have studied these techniques during my MBA, now I feel even worse falling victim to it. Didn't see it coming.

seems like the SE W800 and Nokina E70 would be the best bets. Any other options?

Ideally I'd like a 4MP camera (for 300 Dpi at 6" x8") but I dont think any phone has that.
wait a month or 2 for the n95. everything you want and 5mp cam.

Just traded the N73 for a SE W810i (for the wife), so long N73. Had to pay 2K extra.
