I used to play Playstation 2 some years back using a 5.1 set up having some odd 70-80W RMS (inflated rating of 4000W PMPO) as they were the only budget speakers having an "optical input". The same are now running on my PC since I sold my PS2 in Dec 2007.

ATP 3 (2.1) & another Altec Lansing 2.1 for the desktop - sorry don't remember the model, but brilliant sound & VFM

If ATP3 from Altec Lansing was still available - I'd have gone for the same again & again & again.

Cheers

IMHO there is no best speakers for all use. If you like music, I think 2:1 is your best bet. For movies and games, the more the merrier but speaker placement, height, angles, etc. makes a substantial difference.

I am using a creative inspire series 2:1 which is good but I found Altec Lansing's some models are real VFM.

Hi srisha,
You are right it is a great speakers by look as well as by performance. I say it is a mini giant among speakers. The price too is a giant and the lowest offer I got was 11500.

Any suggestions for USB speakers ? The choice seems to be between Altec Lansing and Logitech ?

+1 to this. I still have ATP5 powering my desktop and it still overwhelms me with the sound quality. The sub is capable of producing oodles of deep bass.

I am using Altec Lancing VS4121 for my PC and it offers a very good bass compared to other brands in that price range.

Previous one was Creative Inspire also a good one but Altec Lancing is a sure hit.

the altec lansing VS 4621 has been launched claiming to be the V4121's sucessor. If possible, get the 4121 itself, the new model sounds worse than the old.

In other news , i got myself a pair of logitech Z2300's second hand for 4.5k
sweet sounding deal, sweeter sounding speakers

Was using a AL MX5021 with a mobbed SBLive 7.1 soundcard.

Then started using the following setup:

Laptop -> NOS DAC -> Musical Fidelity A100 -> ProAc Response 2 Tablette Speakers.

Then got another set of speakers:

PopPulse T77 Amp -> Travagans 3inchers

In Office I cannot use speakers So use headphones.

Laptop -> m2tech HiFace -> Zero DAC 2009 -> EL84 Tubes Headphone Amp -> Audio Technica ATH-W5000.

Currently I have Bose Companion hooked to my PC. I also have a Bose 321 and the neighbours have already complained twice.

i outlined some parts of my PC speakers project in this post here http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/gadget...ml#post1429799

i still havent made too much progress on it due to the fact i kept on changing parts and i couldnt get that amp that i was after

but anyways i got a few more of those speakers so im going to spread those around the room as part of a 5.1 surround set

in the meantime ive got a pioneer VSX819 receiver for the power - and ive upgraded to a 27" PC monitor as well as im using my 12" Acoustic Research subwoofer from my main lounge system

heres some pictures - please note that this was after quickly throwing the system together - the wires will be neatened up when i start with the falsewall/rack bit of the project but im considering changing that a bit

reciever and sub

how the setup looks now - as ive said dont worry about the mess of wiring because that will eventually all be hidden from view

heres a quick pencil sketch of how im considering on modifying the setup to a rack form instead of having that false wall

okay - around two weeks back i changed my receiver - and subsequently i also decided to change my speakers - as again this is just temporary and now im going to begin work on the rack i want to build as well as some decent speaker stands

but heres the speakers now connected to the system - the stuff that arrived

Which computer speakers do you use-newboxes.jpg

the front speakers - Dali Lektor 3 ..... the rears are Dali lektor 2's which are identical but smaller than the lektor 3's

Which computer speakers do you use-frontspeaker.jpg

the centre channel - Dali Lektor LDR

Which computer speakers do you use-centre1.jpg

so what the setup looks like now with the new speakers and amplifier

Which computer speakers do you use-compare.jpg

this is about as good as most people will have in their main systems - so i dont think im going to upgrade from here - i might need a new subwoofer though once the sub thats there goes back into my main setup and for that im considering a Velodyne impact 10 - its small neat and cheap so it will do a perfect job

to finish the electronics in the system though all i need to do is to add in a PS3 - this will give me blu-ray and console gaming and the rest of the media playback occurs from the PC (obviously) - but IMHO the system is adding up to a fantastic PC based entertainment centre
