A good friend of mine wants to buy a laptop. Cost should be around 40k.
How is Dell Inspiron 1525? I heard it has some overheating problems? And any other lappies in the same range?
Specifications are not an issue, mostly home use.

@F50 Dell Inspiron 1525 has not got anysort of over heating issue.. if you feel that its heating up.. the you can just flash the BIOS and it will work fine... Dell has got very good warranty on the computers and even they have complete care which mean if your computer gets damaged accidentally they you can get the replacement but that warranty will cost you more.. even you get real good colors in that notebook.. suggest your friend to go for backlight LCD that will be really great .. and it takes less power.... There is a new brand STUDIO which is getting launched even those computers are great and one of the model has a e-sata port on them....

Hi,

> How is Dell Inspiron 1525? I heard it has some overheating problems?

As I write this on my 2 month old Inspiron 1525, the HDD is 39C and the cores are at 49-50C.

The celeron based LG I had before in the same environment would be at a HDD temp of 49C and the CPU at 68C. Without a table fan blowing on it it would over heat especially with a DOS window and switch off.

In the inspiron, the temperature variation is minimal with a DOS program running.

Three year Old Thinkpad R51 died on me!!

My trusty three year old IBM ThinkPad R51 just died on me when I plugged in a USB hard drive.

Took it to Lenovo authorized service center and the the engineer says it would require a new "planner" (motherboard) which will cost me almost 15,000.

Does anyone know of a IBM/Lenovo contact who can get me this planner for cheap?

Thanks....

I need to order an ultra portable laptop from the US. Have zeroed in on two models:
Sony TZ series & The new Lenovo Ideapad u110.

I definatly need a good warranty as well as accidental cover plan as these machines are tiny 11inchers. Now,if i select the 3 or 5 year warranty+accidental cover will that be valid in India too?
If someone has knowledge on international warranty, please enlighten me asap.

Also, any idea how much the Sony TZ costs here? the lenovo isnt out here yet.

Nope, nothing apart from the VAT payoff. Apparently due to the XPS being a top of the line series there are no discounts on it.

Here are some pics:

Ishaan, does the Epson LX-800 still work? I have one which was brought in 1996 and still works. Very very sturdy printer!
