Just came across the Asus EEE PC.

Weighs just .98 kg
7" Screen
3 USB Ports
VGA port capable of 1600 x 1200
3.5 hours of battery
8GB SSD HDD
512mb-1gb RAM
900mhz celeron processor
Webcam
Wi-fi
SD/MMC card reader
Available in quite a few colours.

All this for just $350/$269(without the webcam) I think I remember reading in one of the other threads that Croma sells it for 17,000 in India.

Buy a nice 22" widescreen lcd and an external HDD to use at home and IMO it does pretty much everything you need it to.

get the cheapest notebook pc in the market. Get the ram upgraded to 2gb. Enjoy it while it lasts. Get a new one as replacement.

I am expecting delivery of my new notebook this week. Here are the specs

Pentium Core2 Duo 2.1 GHz, 3Mb L2 cache, 800MHz FSB *
4GB Dual channel DDR2 RAM *
160 GB SATA High performance HDD (7200 rpm) *
15.4 inch widescreen TFT with 1440*900 res. with TruLife *
8 in 1 Media card reader
8X DVD+/-RW with Dual layer writing capabilities
Bluetooth stereo headset
Plus the usual stuff like webcam/usb,hdmi ports etc etc.

*Upgraded from the stock parts

Make: Dell Inspiron

And with all these, it's still a budget laptop when it comes to the price!

Not quite Funny, Vivek Buddy! May be, with Mainframe's blue, black and white text, you have forgotton how a functional computer feels. :P

gopz, it is 55K. Had I opted for 3 GB single channel RAM, it would've been 4.7K less.

it's black, green, and blue, in that order.

now, what do you mean I have forgotten the feel of a functional computer? FYI, today mainframe works on a emulator on one of very functional PCs, the days of dedicated mainframe terminals are gone.

how does it relate to Mac not being favorite of most of the hardcore programmers? and why is it not funny?

What colour did you buy LBM?

And a newer version is out now with a 9" screen instead of the 7". The rest of the features are pretty much the same. I believe the new Intel Atom processor will be included by July or something.

mf,why dont you buy from newegg instead.I bought one for my BIL few days back. There are some good deals for Asus notebooks and they do offer international warranty as well.

This HP laptop is reasonably priced but processor, screen and graphic card are let down.By paying little bit more you can buy Asus with better any/all of above components.
