Yes.. Tried that and I see menu like this. Which is inbuilt Onkyo menu.

I tried playing around with different HDMI input types.

And my Onkyo series is, TX-NR414.

Re: The Home Theater thread

I'm considering a soundbar for the living room. I'm no audiophile so my requirements are simple: good sound while watching movies, Hans Zimmer music should give that feel of listening a masterpiece and the ability to play music through AUX or bluetooth.

I have a LG 43" tv and the sound isn't exactly bad, it is just normal. Nothing specatcular.

My in-laws have a Bose home theater (cost a couple of lakhs) and honestly, I wasn't blown away enough. Perhaps it wasn't tuned properly, perhaps we weren't watching the right media for Bose to shine.

I came across the Bose Solo 5

https://www.boseindia.com/en_in/prod...oductTabs_tab1

So,

1) Considering I don't want to spend more than 25k, do these soundbars/TV speakers make sense? Will the sound they produce make that much of a difference over that from a tv?

2) Any reviews of this product?

3) Will a 5.1 be that much better than a soundbar/tv speaker such as this?

Did you consider any others before deciding on Yamaha?

............

Sony RT-40
I just bought this two weeks back. Extremely happy with the quality of output and more importantly Bluetooth capability.

My Tv output is connected to subwoofer via optical cable. So anything that plays on Tv plays on the sound bar. Additional advantage is connect smartphone and stream
Music when Tv is not on. Check it out in some sony showroom.

Yes, Did consider

1. "philips fidelio B5" - Reviews looked hit and miss, and its pretty old in market now.
2. "JBL SB 350". - Not so good reviews.

But went for Yamaha as its latest and having DTS Virtual:X technology. It does virtualize the 5.1 effect, as we feel sound coming from behind and above when watching movies. Sound from Soundbar is crystal clear and its has a bigg Sub-Woofer with punchy Bass as good as wired Subs.

Re: The Home Theater thread

Friends,

I have a JBL SB 350 which is connected to Vu. The remote for the SB is not working fine and facing issues with volume controls. TV is used only for net usage now though i have a tata sky connection too and it is finding a bit difficult to use. Is there a way to synch the TV remote or the tata sky remote to the sound bar.

Re: The Home Theater thread

Bought the Bose Solo after a few issues with the ageing Lifestyle18. It's incredibly cheap and improves the TV sound to a degree, with deep base and clear vocals. Not replacement for a Soundbar, though.

Great speakers, I am yet to hear or read anything negative on the Zensor range. I personally have the 1's and the 7's.
They go well with the Marantz, however I believe the PM 5005 are a pretty old model. Would you like to try for the PM6005?

Hi sanjbmw2001

Thanks for the suggestion. I believe PM6005 is now replaced by PM6006 which should be similar to PM6005. I briefly compared the specifications of PM5005 and PM6005/PM6006 and couldn't find much difference other than an addition of 5W's in output power. Hence I settled for the PM5005 as wanted to keep the cost of the setup <1L.

Dali Zensor 5's costed me around 54.5K. The price of PM5005 seems to have increased and the new price quoted by the dealers is 37K+. I managed to find a new one for around 28K and the manufacturing date is of 2016.

I have coupled up this setup with a TaoTronics TT-BA07 for bluetooth input. It has AptX Low Latency Audio chipset and I believe that expensive and high end Network receivers would do no better than this at receiving audio via bluetooth. The audio quality is very good and much better than direct RCA input. This costed me close to 47 USD.

Cheers!

Did you also try the surround aspect for fidelio with the detachable speakers? Some reviews claim it can function as a 4.1
Price difference between the fidelio and the YAS 207 is quite a bit

If you have an iPhone download the remote app; my remote stopped working almost a year back, and I have not missed it at all

I have done that too but APPLE TV wont read it. It needs to be once configured by using the remote.

You can assign your standard TV remote for the direction and OK keys and work it around.
