Phew! It took a long time to upgrade, lost count of the number of restarts.

And yeah, I am not able to see any page numbers either.

Looks like for the fresh books, that we download, we should be seeing pages numbers. (Just a thought)
Will check after purchasing some thing.

re: Amazon Kindle - Touch & Tablet Version launched

A colleague confirmed that it is indeed for the new purchases. Haven't tried it on mine though.

Lately, I'm observing that the lighting which comes along with the leather cover has a mood of its own. It fickles often and goes off. I need to remove the cover and then fix it again but it still retains its mood. Sometimes it's OK. Are you guys facing this?

re: Amazon Kindle - Touch & Tablet Version launched

I too got my kindle last week. I updated it to 3.1 yesterday and upgrade was fairly smooth (I started the upgrade and left it as it was very slow. By the time I finished my work, it was updated). No page numbers for the existing books yet.

@JVH: I observed that the light switches on only if we pull it out completely. This possibly means that the terminals for the LED contact the battery terminals only when the plastic strip is pulled out completely. Can you check if there is any dust near the strip which is not allowing proper contact between the terminals?

I remembered I had ordered a book couple weeks back, but never downloaded. I downloaded it yesterday, but didn't find any page number in that either.

It is a shame that neither kindle nor kindle books are available in India.

there are titles that I would like to buy (electronic form) and get it but can't

Go back and you can find many BHPians who have it. And it works over wifi all over the world.

The other option is to buy it and download it on kindle for pc/mac/linux.

I installed kindle for PC and then went to buy - Amazon refused to sell it to me (I was using my Indian credit card). This was several months ago.

I checked today - it seems several titles are available now, though the site says not all titles may be available in all countries.

I think it might be a copyright issue - if the copyright holder doesn't want Amazon to sell it in a certain place (due to existing arrangements with other local publishers for example) then touch luck.

re: Amazon Kindle - Touch & Tablet Version launched

Guys,

a few doubts. I have been using the Kindle for a few months now but still not able to understand a few things.

1. How do i "email" books to my account?
2. How can i download books from internet and transfer to my kindle? Because some books that my wife wants are not available on kindle store.
3. From where can i download ebooks?

Thanks a lot. Awaiting some response.

I think its pretty late to reply but the real page numbers can not be seen normally. There are two conditions to be met. One, the books should support and secondly, you can see the actual page number only when you press the menu button. Thats what amazon says.
