S10 lite vs one plus 7t !! I am confused.
Aside from the gimmicky features, following is the difference -

1. More LTE bands supported in One Plus.

2. Warp Charge 30 T in One Plus

3. USB 3.1 Type C in One Plus vs. 2.0 in Samsung

4. APT-X HD in One Plus

5. 720p@960 fps in One Plus

6. 8 GB RAM standard in One Plus

7. UFS 3.0 in One Plus vs. 2.1 in Samsung

Snapdragon 855+ vs. 855 and display (90 Hz vs. 60 Hz.) is your personal choice.

I believe the camera on Samsung *may* be better.

GCam on One Plus solves the problem for people who are too attached to mobile camera (I am one of those).

My One Plus 3T will complete 3 yrs. next month. Absolutely zero issues and received constant updates. Currently running Android 9.

P.S. I don't have a One Plus as my daily driver, but better half has one since 2019 Diwali, so have a good experience on how the device functions.

Got the lite for my kids and it is used for gaming right now. :-D

Light to hold, smooth interface. Very good camera with long zoom. Loud enough ringer. Good call voice quality. Have not measured battery life. But my A8+ and wife's M30 used to be on the charger while gaming; now, I have never seen the phone on charger. It is on single SIM (jio) with wifi on always - data not used unless there is a power failure. No memory card installed.

Worth every bit. Have not tested GPS so far.

I got extra 3k discount on my ICICI card, and it worked out cheaper that 7T. 7T was a strong contender, with its marginally better processor - snapdragon 855+ against the 855 on the lite.

Samsung was a known brand, with 2 phones already in the family. In spite of identical connectors, with different charging voltages and ratings, using a different chargr for each phone would lead to total chaos or sub optimal charging times. Did not feel adventurous.

Also, as this phone approaches half its life, I'll send both my kids down the rooting and modding route, and was not sure of how mod friendly OP as a brand is. Samsung seems to be friendly in this aspect. I'm not sure. Have not researched much on these lines. I would have ignored moddability, but the USA Vs Huawei war is not ignorable.

Edit:- looks like we are getting into something like an internet explorer vs. Firefox kind of war.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Hi Everyone,

Would like to give an update on my Nokia 8.1, which I bought last year in March.

The phone is running really well, no lag, as good as day 1 and also gets all the updates as it runs Android One.

I would like to say, it really makes sense to buy mid range Android one phones, as they are almost unbeatable when it comes to VFM.

Of course the Camera may not be the best, but it does the job.

Cheers!

Agree, bought a Tarkan one which seems to definitely support Dash Charge, will check out if it Warps as well.

I have a high quality dual USB Belkin unit but yes, will pick up that lovely OP OEM one sometime (https://www.oneplus.in/product/onepl...30-car-charger)

The OEM one is pricey to say the least! Need a length of ~3 feet. Here is one which looks good: https://www.amazon.in/Tarkan-Rugged-...ustomerReviews
The Tarkan cable has turned out to be excellent so far. Lengthy, well made and is charging at WARP speeds as per my OP7 Pro. Has a nifty velcro strap on it to coil it up as required. Recommended.

I just heard something called the Samsung A71 is now available in the offline market. Do check that out, looks quite sleek and appealing. I am fairly sure your mom would love it.

I have personally stayed away from one plus phones due to high SAR value. Please check the SAR value for both the phones and you will see the samsung phone has less SAR value.

This looks real good. I will head to a Samsung showroom in a mall tomorrow with mum so she can get hands on with it. Tell me, how does this compare with the M31? It’s 30k here now. And vs the s10 lite?https://www.androidcentral.com/samsu...xy-a71-preview

She’s been pestering me for the iPhone XR, so I think she wants a sexy looking phone. I just gave her some mumbo jumbo and got her off that bandwagon. I think this phone will keep her off the iPhone want list for a while longer, considering it’s touted to look good, sleek, and sexy and has a very good screen apparently.

I agree, this completely slipped my mind. Was a good reason I picked up the Pixel.

The XR is a decent phone but it is quite heavy. I don't think your mum will appreciate the extra weight.

I have a feeling that the A71 would be perfect for her. Yes the S10 Lite costs only marginally higher but I am sure she won't be using those extra features, plus the S10 Lite doesn't look as sleek. Design of a phone (as in how handy it is to use in the day to day life) is usually more important for ladies than features.

If you can spend 30k then forget the M31. That is likely to be a slight upgrade over the existing M30s, which is a 15k budget phone. The A71 would be leagues ahead of that.

The S71 has a dedicated MicroSD slot. The S10 lite uses hybrid slot, and OP 7/ 7T series does not have expandable memory. My preferred choice would have been the 71 if it was launched 2 weeks back.
The higher price I paid was justifiable given the SD 855 processor vs the SD 730 the S71.
Unless you travel intenational, how do the higher number of bands on the 7t help?

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I picked up the Galaxy A71 exactly a week ago (not in India). I loved the looks of this phone. Its a very good phone but you cannot compare it to the likes of Oppo / Vivo / Realme / Xiaomi in terms of pricing. It is pricey for what it offers compared to its competition. I was sick and tired of the ads pushed by the Redmi Note series (my previous phone) so I paid a premium for this. The A71 sports the same display as the S10 Lite and Note 10 lite. The SD 730 (not 730G) processor is an upper mid range chipset and is very good for day to day tasks. I haven't installed any games so cannot comment on that aspect. Cameras are brilliant. Software optimization is where Samsung trumps the Chinese players. One UI 2.0 is pretty good. Super Amoled+ display is stunning to say the least. It also comes with Samsung Pay and NFC. Battery lasts two days for me with medium to light usage. Dark mode is on and always on display set to only when screen is tapped.

In display fingerprint scanner is no good. The older tech rear mounted scanners are better by a wide margin. I can't imagine what it would be like with a tempered glass slapped on. The only other hiccup I faced so far is that Facebook came pre installed (not so in the Indian version I guess) and cannot be uninstalled. I just disabled this app for now. You need to be careful while handling this phone because it has a large display. All in all a bit pricey but a very good device otherwise. I preferred this over the A51 mainly due to the Exynos processor on that one.

Good morning.

Requesting views from any & everybody who had purchased a Samsung flagship in 2016/17.

How's your device holding up?

Did you get regular updates?

Has it slowed down?

What OS came out of the box and what's running on it right now?

Any pointers appreciated for flagship models like the S7/8 or Note7/8 series.

Lastly, is there a considerable difference between Exynos and QC for the same model, for example, the Note 10 Plus?

Thanks

Using an A70 for almost 10 months now. Fingerprint scanner had same trouble with mine too but with few updates and about 3-4 months later it became much better. Thought Samsung should have sorted out with the new releases. But I am much content because of the Samsung pay, which is a nice thing to have.

I am currently using an S7 edge which I bought in 2016 ( few months after it launched), and it's still fine for regular use.

Out of the box it came with Android 6.0, and since then it got updated to Android 8.0. So two major Android version updates. Thing is, Samsung kept pushing out security updates every month till the end of 2018, after which I received one security update every 2-3 months or so. Currently running the December 2019 patch.

So yeah, it's not a Pixel, but I'm OK with Sammy's update policy. Atleast they are consistent and I never had any bugs or the like. Would prefer stable updates over fast buggy ones.

Regarding the performance, I have to say the phone actually feels smoother after the Oreo update. It's not as snappy as say, a Oneplus, but then it never was even when new. I don't play a lot of games on my phone, so I'm satisfied with its speed. It doesn't have that infamous lag that Sammies where known for.

I should know, my dad used to own the S4 and it was just terrible to use after 2 years or so.
