Thanks for the heads up on using glue! This is my first Samsung device and with how well-built the phone is otherwise, I was shocked when the button popped out.

Regarding the aliexpress replacements, do they have glue pre-applied to hold them in place ?

Also, how good is the S20 with Exynos ? The internet is full of negative reviews and how one should avoid it, but would like a user's perspective especially on thermal throttling and poor picture quality compared to the SD variants. When I bought the Note 8 the difference between SD and Exynos wasn't as significant as it is today.

I thought of this, but the Note is already a HUGE device and with a case I feel like i'm holding a geometry box from yore, each time I put it near my ear So no cases for me

I don't see a problem here. All most all bloat apps can be disabled and won't appear any more in the app folder.

In fact I was impressed with iPhone 12 build and aesthetics. Budget was not an issue as well. But simply don't like Apple's strategy of my way or high way. I can't be tied down by a company after paying 80K for a phone.

Avoiding charger for sake of environment, my foot...!! You need a type c to type c charger cable combo any way where as most of old chargers are type A to type c. So all these are just to loot the customer.

I simply love the flexibility Samsung offer.

As I explained, there is no glue involved in the button. The rubber bush has a press to fit kind of shape. So the new button will lock in on insertion. Due to wear and tear, the rubber bush weakens and fall off from the slot. This is the problem we are experiencing.

I simply dont care about the fuss created by some youtube experts on Snapdragon v/s Exynos. It has been always this way even from S7 times. I have not noticed any significant difference. May be SD variants are slightly better in performance and battery.

Off topic. I m waiting for the day when Apple also drops the screen and just provide CPU.
Jokes apart I feel that like desktop PC, in Mobile also CPU should be separate and screen separate. So one can have his/her own choice in both. Seriously such innovation is needed.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Got the Redmi 9 Prime for my Mom last week. Costed 12k for the 128gb variant. Purchased it from the Xiaomi store at a local mall. Had initially planned on getting her the OnePlus Nord, but it was out of stock at Croma & Reliance store + she vehemently opposed buying an expensive phone for her!

None of these companies give a damn about environment. Apple products have some of the lowest reparability index and they charge a bomb for that anyway. So to loot some more margin from customer in the midst of a pandemic, they are doing all these posturings

Min 100m expected iPhone 12 sales a year. Remove a 20USD charger. Cool, 2B USD savings to the topline. And in the process, also earn some brownie points for saving the environment.
If they care about environment, first thing they should have done is to shift to type c from the stupid lightning connector.

The only thing I like about apple is the finesse they apply to the HW.

Quite a few apps cant be disabled. Samsung members. Cloud Storage. Clock. Calendar.

But I feel that what happened to China / Huawei yesterday can happen to Samsung / Korea today. Or MyDesiMobMaker / India tomorrow.

Security is just a smoke screen. (With what is happening at the borders, it is real for us.) The net result of the Huawei ban has been that US has eliminated the obligation to pay royalties to Huawei.

Couple of centuries back, it was the opium wars. Now it is IPR. (noticed those reports claiming that legalising marijuana sales is good for the economy?)

If indeed, the US ties Alphabet Inc., / Google down, these apps may be a boon. Huawei and other Chinese makers had relied on the play store. Samsung does not. Some Indian corporates too, have suddenly woken up. And want a design play store, but for the wrong reason. I suddenly no longer grudge the samsung "bloatware" anymore. It looks like a fire exit than a eyesore.

But please take those praises for iPhone to the iPhone thread. No offense to iphone fans, just dont get into a "my phone vs your phone" thing here.

Apple has a very shrewd business team and this elimination of chargers is the long game.
Remember when they eliminated the 3.5mm jack and the internet broke down? What happened next? Apple released the AirPods (which today brings in more revenue than most Fortune 500 companies). Soon Samsung, OnePlus, etc. realized they are missing out and followed suit.

Apple will slowly eliminate the lightning port too and soon have only MagSafe charging. This way they can earn more by selling you additional stuff while eliminating cost of the port.
And then you'll see other OEMs follow suit.

How is Realme 6 Pro? Does it has some issues with display brightness? Some reviews says the brightness is really low especially in sunlight.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Hi Guys,

Does any one know of One plus service center here in Pune? I tried googling but could not find much. I have a One Plus 3T which refuses to boot up after the initial one plus screen. Although I have got myself 7T I was wondering if I can get 3T repaired & use it in my car as a multimedia unit.

Thanks,
A

There was one in Seasons Mall in Magarpatta City, else you could try the company store on JM Road.

With the very not so stellar experience with iPhone 12 post splendid experience with Pixel2xl for three years. I placed order for Pixel 4a yesterday on Flipkart. Google should have launched Pixel 5 in India. Hope to have phone in hand by 8th December.

Thanks. I placed an ordered and praying it reaches me, haven't had much luck with aliexpress orders this year. 42k for the S20 was after trading in your old phone ? Its currently listed for 44k on reliance digital with S20+ being 50k on flipkart.

Woah!! That was a real quick switch. But, don't you think you should have given some more time for the iPhone to catch up? I have been an android user in the past (Samsung & Moto) before switching to an iPhone 3.5 years back & I feel iPhone is a great piece of smartphone tech with the ease of use, fluidity of the OS, the overall H/W & S/W experience and the likes.

As a matter of fact, I actually found iOS to be better in terms of usability as compared to the Android, even though it has it's fair share of limitations. Of course, here I am talking about the switch 3.5 years ago, but even today we have a Pixel 4a sporting the Android 11 in our family and I still wouldn't want to go back to an Android device.
Also, iPhone is the ONLY Apple device that I am using and not bound by the ecosystem.

Just my thoughts here since you have spent a good amount of sum on getting the 12, maybe you should just give it a thought before giving it away.
