Hi Samurai,

Since you are looking for a Defy replacement and in same price range and ergonomics and better specs; you may want to consider SONY XPERIA GO.

Key Features
3.5-inch TFT Capacitive Touchscreen
Android v2.3 (Gingerbread) OS
1 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 Dual Core Processor
5 MP Primary Camera
Water and Dust Resistance
Wi-Fi Enabled
Expandable Storage Capacity of 32 GB

Its priced at ₹14490/- on FlipKart.

Below is the comparison between Motorola Defy & Xperia GO.

http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3...&idPhone2=4782

The only negatives as i see in Xperia GO are
1. Non-removable Li-Ion 1305 mAh battery vs Li-Po 1540 mAh battery [MOTOROLA DEFY]
2. 320 x 480 pixels, 3.5 inches (~165 ppi pixel density) vs 480 x 854 pixels, 3.7 inches (~265 ppi pixel density) [MOTOROLA DEFY]
Regards,

3) Around 1hr of screen time
4) BT is always OFF
5) GPS for my walking session in the evening, for an hour with Endomondo application
6) Screen timeout at 30 sec with automatic brightness.
7) Whatsapp for may be half hour most.

With this usage pattern, I use to get an average of 1-1.5 days on Defy. Means I take it off charger around 8.30AM in the morning, it can go till the next day evening. The overnight drain is less than 2-3% which is contributing a lot.
However, not using this one as my daily driver anymore. On a Note 2 for the past couple weeks and I think I'll be on it for coming few months at least

Between, hows your 3G signal level? Fortunately I have more than 18asu all the time at my home and my workplace. I know this one drains like anything when you're in a low signal area. For e.g. I've ran out of juice while in cinema.
I get between 16-19 asu. How does that translate into battery drain? I mean is there an equation?

Long time back I considered and rejected the Go based on the screen resolution. I can't go back from 480x854 to 320x480.

Exactly!

Guys, please compare carefully with Defy before suggesting a successor. I have done extensive search since 6 months before posting here in frustration. Defy was ahead of its time when it came out in 2010. Now in 2013 I am struggling to find a suitable successor. None of the suggestions so far have overall better package than Defy, within 20k budget or 4 inch screen. I'll probably stick with Defy for another year or look at WP8.

Samu, Is your 4" screen requirement a hard stop? If you can stretch to 4.3" and increase the budget by 2-3K then wait for the S2 Plus. Quite decent specs.

Alternatively even the current S2 with the Exynos processor (I9100) not the I9100G (TI OMAP) is a decent option. Samsung has just released 4.1.2 JB for these versions and they are very mod friendly for custom ROMs.

Try connecting it after

Settings-> Developer Options ( turn the switch to green) -> Check the USB debugging box

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

even the MSM7227A processor is the budget processor GPU combination which has now been overclocked to 1 Ghz. Kinda like a bajaj chetak inside a pulsar 220 skin. Meh.

Samurai dada - why not the WP8? or a blackberry?

Ok, I can stretch that much.

Hmm, I don't need the fastest out there. Don't expect it in my price range.

I am keeping WP8 option open, waiting for Nokia 620 to release, so that I can compare with 8S.

Hi guys,I've just finished updating my Samsung Galaxy S2 with an OTA update of 19.86MB. I got a msg saying that I needed to upgrade it for better stability. I have no idea what all has changed but will see and post in a couple of days.I'm on 4.0.4.I updated using Wifi connectivity without connecting it to my laptop or Kies.

Same here. I don't find any difference till now though. Was really hoping for the 4.1. Any idea on when it might come out? We did hear some rumors.

Yes of course. Low asu means low signal level from cell tower and hence phone has to transmit in a higher power state which means higher battery drain. Is it always locking to the max of 19 asu? I had that issue before but with the JB leak, my signal strength is most of the time around 24-25 asu. Between, 16-19asu seems like good signal strength if not the best.

Um... this should look refreshing then. 42% battery after 22hours.
