Again i have read some issues with the signal reception of the galaxy S advance. If that is ok then you can go ahead with the S advance. It depends on your priorities.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I connected to PC my SE Xperia Pro and a new version of software is available 4.1.b.0.587. Has anybody Sony owners or any other tried this.
I am still on Gingerbread 2.3.4. Have not upgraded to ICS.
Shall i have to backup all my downloaded APPS before upgrading?
Thanks Sanjay.

Is there any method posted on Defy Superthread? Its a parked thread.
The SOC method was working fine all along till GB 2.3.4. With the latest (2.3.6) and BL7, it doesnt work. I see you had stock Froyo, so it must have been an easy root there.

I didnt mean that SOC would wipe my data. What I wrote was that since SOC ain't working, the other method mentioned on Defy super thread is to use a *fixed* SBF. But before flashing that SBF, they have recommended doing Wipe data/cache (twice!) in stock recovery.

So I want to know if someone here has rooted their Defy+ 2.3.6 with this method, and if yes, what all gets wiped?

I have used the SBF method for my MB525 - Yes all data gets wiped, but stays on the SD card if a prior backup using TB has been made.

DL TB again and restore the apps is possible - but sms and like are gone unless you backup the same using exclusive sw

When I was in Delhi two weeks back and was using Airtel SIM, 3G worked like a charm. In almost whole of South Delhi and CP, I was always seeing H.

Phone is Motorola Defy Plus and I've kept the network mode as 'Automatic Default'. Problem is that if I keep it on '3G only', I don't get ANY mobile signal at all! It immediately goes into Emergency mode. That sounds like it's a cell tower issue in my area.

Will check in other parts of Mumbai before badgering Vodafone.
You can do these steps to find whether its a coverage issue or with your activation.

1) Go to 3G only mode
2) Take "Manual" selection for network
3) Search for networks available (This will list only 3G networks)
4) If doesn't list, its coverage
5) If it lists, then try registering manually

But doesn't Titanium Backup need root access to work? Or it is required only for uninstalling OEM apps?

If TB can make a Nandroid like backup of my existing apps and settings, I'd happily to wipe data/cache and flash the fixed SBF. I don't care much about SMS.

Yes, afaik Titanium does need root access. I have been running a legal Ti for well over a year now on both my Incredible 2 (CDMA) and Wildfire S (GSM)

I had a similar issue when I moved to CM 7.1 last year.
I realized only when I started travel and could see no signal at all, unless I switched to 2G mode.
I rebooted, tried cleaning the SIM and all sorts of things. Then I downloaded the latest baseband switcher app and installed and chose the correct baseband.
The problem was fixed permanently.

Now, coming to the latest developments on Defy, it seems that the latest build from Quarx has fixed all major issues reported so far.
I am most likely going to install this by end of the week.
I have been delaying, since I want to purchase Sygic using their estore. So I don't want to keep on sending activation requests every time I put a new ROM.

However, ParanoidAndroid 1.9x based on CM10 seems to take things even further with loads of customization options. I might instead try that first.

Anyone using this at the moment?

SMS backup and restore.
Call backup and restore.

or search for ritesh sahu

btw, TB does some weird call/settings backup in its latest version - their SMS backup approach is broken though.
