Awesome app man!
I actually was looking at something to 'tell' the time while screen is locked/off
( say by two clicks on volume down button )

Looking forward to seeing awesome apps!
Can we give ideas - and can you compile apps?

Cheers,

Ace.

Nothing - just status of charging or discharging. When low, it asks to connect the charger.

Right now, after 3 hours of charging, it is at 74%

Google Maps update - very disappointing.

Hope you all got the new Maps update.

They have made it just like the crippled version of Google Maps in IOS devices.

Lots if features missing, but Google just sent out a mailer saying that only Latitude is retiring. Who needs it anyway!

Missing stuff -

1) My maps! It was so useful to keep your own maps, walking paths, places etc. It was very handy for me since I used to contribute to Google Maps via Map maker.
2) Entire Google Labs features - Distance measure is one major thing which is going to be missed!
3) You can't touch and select two places in the map for calculating driving directions anymore. You can only touch and select the destination and the starting point will be your location. You can change it by typing in another place address though.
4) Latitude, but this is not a major miss, since there are other apps.
5) Can't long tap and load an address anymore while maps is already showing a driving direction.
6) No more offline Map caching!!! Google, you're crazy!!

iOS Google Maps sucked and now Android users also have to suffer the same stupid version!

Offline caching is coming back soon. Google has acknowledged it and will come soon.

Realized this phone (XOLO Q800) is a bit bigger than my preferred size, will stick with 4" or less screens. The chipset is original MT6589 (not the downgraded one) and box shows Apr/2013.

Type "Ok Maps" in the search to cache the map for offline usage. Weird !!

Hey Thanks for the feature-turned-"Easter Egg"!! Nice. But it's really weird! It is like entering a cheat code in a game.

Google has pushed a new update to make this option visible in the app. Talk about criticism

Great.. I am yet to receive an update notification. Would be happy if they brought "May Maps" also back. Lots of people are complaining about this in Play Store.

Did Apple pay Google some kind of bribe to strip features off the Android version , to make it look like the iOS verison?

My sister needs to buy one after her Sony xperia mini screen conked off and a new LCD costs like 7k without any warranty while in 10-12k she gets a new Xolo

She is considering the GG/ GG Quattro, but would help if u can give your impressions of both phones
XOLO Q1000 review

@Phamilyman, Sorry Boss, missed out your post! Didn't log in to forum, was occupied in something more important.

Chipset is the former one. Responsiveness is excellent; no lags. My daughter plays games like Temple run 2, 3D car racing, dr. Driving etc. without any fuss on this phone, whereas, these games stop/ pause in GG. I am using Vodafone & Airtel sims, both work fine. In my case, the battery lasts a day for moderate to fair use involving phone calls, browsing, emails over 03 accounts, games for 30-45 minutes etc.
Display is superb, a screen protector is provided in the box by XOLO.

Cons : Phone sometimes switches to silent mode on its own, so one can miss a call unknowingly. This phone does not have magnetic sensor so compass does not work. No FLIP cover made for this phone by XOLO. Speakers could have been slightly louder.

Overall, I am happy with this phone.

For any other query, pl post or PM me!

Hi neoonwheels,

I plan to buy Dream D1 but would like to know some specific feedback.

1) How is the battery backup on moderate use of 3G, Video and GPS. I mean about 45 minutes of 3G voice, 2 hours of 3G browsing and 3 hours of GPS usage with 3G data(Gmap).
2) How is the heat dissipation of phone with continuous 3G usage
3) Though I browsed several websites for the SAR value, I couldn't find it anywhere. Got any info on that?
4) How do you rate the build quality w.r.t Samsungs (Galaxy S)

Thanks in advance for your reply

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I've been using jellybam ROM for a long time.
Tonight, I switched to Carbon ROM . I'm really impressed with it. To start with the ROM is just 120 MB odd. And it shows in its performance and battery consumption.
After re-installing all my apps ( around 5 pages ), and enabling 3G, office email, gmail, facebook sync, team-bhp and playing music via n7 player,
the battery drain is 12% in 4.5 hours which is really impressive compared to the my previous experience with CM10.1 based custom ROMs.

PS: the device I use is Galaxy GT-N7000 ( aka Note 1 ) and I also have Juice defender battery saving application ( paid version ) set in the balanced mode.

Anyone else had similar experience with Carbon ROM ?
Any other ROM that is ultra light and has a similar miserly attitude on battery drain ?
