Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

3G has no connection with your BB plan and you would need to activate it separately.

and yes the new curve is a beauty! hope the battery life is good

I bought the phone at work, for Rs. 9500 in Jan 2010.

I checked eBay India and I found this for Rs. 850. OEM Blackberry Curve 8520 Full Housing But I'm not sure of the quality.

Is there an option?

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

Hi Pranavt,

I'm on BB599 plan on vodafone, it provides the same services as BB899 plan except the access to the enterprise email. When i applied for the plan i was told that the applications like youtube (online streaming) are not included in the package.
Youtube utilizes vodafone live and hence you are charged for it. In case you stream lots of videos on your phone, opt for unlimited vodafone live pack of INR 199.

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

Got the BB 9900 a few days back. I quite like the phone. It looks very similar to BB 9000 and feels quite sturdy too.

The touch is very iphone like and smooth, however the touchpad has a lag. There are massive issues with the battery which does not even last a day. Last week I was travelling to Hyderabad for work and within 12 hours the battery was down to 15%.

To sum it up, at Rs. 31, 250/- I think the phone is not a real value for money.

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

have you updated the firmware? also remove useless preloaded apps if any from your phone. and battery backup during travelling seldom gives a good indication of the actual backup due to the variation in network signals.

that said you should be able to get one day of backup with normal use.

get an extra battery and charger and have fun

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

Got the panel of my 8520 replaced from a small repair shop on CMH road Indiranagar. He had a "like original" casing for 1150 and it works well. Couldnt distinguish the quality from the one which was there on it originally, didnt replace the keypad or the front Panel (they do come with the package and have kept them in case i need them later).

Phone is as good as new If anyone is interested, this shop is just after eye sense on the CMH road.

I did not bother doing that or even checking if there exists an upgraded firmware since I bought the phone within the first few days of the launch. I presumed there might not be any updated firmwares. I guess I have to check now.

+ 1 to that, but I must add that my 8520 had spoiled me on this point. It easily lasted through the day even when travelling.

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

true and i do agree that RIM could have put up a better battery for these specs :(

a 1230mah battery just does not cut it for a phone like this.

let me know if your firmware upgrade works

Tried the update thing. There's no update on the firmware yet. That means the touchpad lag stays for some more days! Any one else facing a similar problem with the Bold touch?

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

Guys I'm getting the Curve 9300 3G at a great price online. However, I just need confirmation on one thing - are all 9300s shipped with OS6 these days? A friend had bought 9300 sometime back and he said they are.

This would be a (minor) upgrade from my 8520, purely because I need GPS and 3G. Cannot afford to spend 20k on getting a 9360/9780!

Re: Blackberry Phones and Services in India

oh ok.

Have not heard any issues other than to do with the battery over the past few months.

Try and get a Dead On Arrival certification and get a new handset before a month is over.
