Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

Yum Yum! Another lovely camera from Olympus. Way to go Oly!

Ming Thein has reviewed it and he's putting his money where his mouth is..he's ordered 2 bodies.

For us poor chaps in India I expect this camera to show up later this year at a price of 1.15-1.25L - body only.

As expensive as a top end APS-C DSLR and inching towards the price of a 'starter' full frame DSLR like the Nikon D600 and Canon 6D. How does Oly expect to sell this thing?

Yeah, all Olympus 4/3 and m4/3 since 2007 have body IS. The OMD series has the most advanced 5-axis IS.

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

IMO, the EM-1 isn't worth the asking price over EM-5.The On-Sensor PDAF still isn't perfect or doesn't come close to the dedicated PDAF.

For such a expensive camera and considering the size, the shots per charge is rather low and it also doesn't have built in flash.

The EM-5 has a OLED screen vs the EM-1 lcd.

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

So who is dumping their current m4/3 camera and going for the new EM1? I just hope that the EM5 goes into a fire sale so that I can pick up a body for me with that 45 1.8 and the 60 macro lens.

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

Looks like we will have an announcement soon on the new NEX-FF from Sony.

Would this be a poor man's Leica? Or would it be an all together different experience on par with a Leica M?

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

The Olympus OM-D EM1 has been launched in India. Price is 1.05L body only and 1.59L as a kit with the 12-40mm lens. Less than I expected.

I would be mighty surprised if they manage to sell even a single copy!

It is about as expensive than D600 or Canon 6D, both full frame cameras!

Yups, that's what I believe too. The price is equal to an Aps-c dslr and approaching the price of a starter full frame body.

To think the em1 body only msrp is about 50% more than the em5 kit's Street price. The em1 should have a street price of approx 95k.

As I said in my post below, I was wondering who will buy this thing. Guess time will tell.

If you ask me the em5 itself is overpriced by about 20k. The em1 should not cost any more the Canon 7D at all under any circumstances and 7D makes far more sense at that price point for any customer (simply the best consumer camera out there)

I'd put fair prices for em5 at 50k and em1 at 65k (body only). Do they want to lure people to mirrorless or scare them away for good ?? Anybody looking for a serious mirrorless should not look beyond Nex-6 at all. Thats 50k for a very good camera. Why cant Olympus produce something as capable in that price range. EM1 is just a waste of time (at a time when full frame prices are coming down like anything)

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

The Sony NEX 5R with 16-50mm is the official TBHP test drive camera. Here you can see GTO carrying it on his neck.

On lighter note, if the camera is hanging there, then which camera took this snap (The original Test Drive Camera)?

No, this was shot by a reviewer from another magazine. The original TBHP test drive camera was Panasonic LX3.

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

May be a small remark from me. Our GTO looks a bit like our MSD especially in this side angle and with his cap on.

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

My my... finally a lens that matches the good old Zuiko 12-60mm, the best lens I ever owned. Even Ming Thein makes the comparison with the 12-60.

http://blog.mingthein.com/2013/09/13...-olympus-12-40

Reminds me of this discussion from two years ago when I was pining for m4/3 version of 12-60mm lens.

Its highly unlikely anyone will relase fast zooms for M43, even if someone does, at most it will be f2.8 which will give DOF of f5.6 in FF terms, also lenses will be quite heavy, granted not as much as FF f2.8 zooms but still reasonably heavy. Even zooms for Crop factor aren't light (ie Nikkor 17-55 f2.8 DX).

Kinda defeats the purpose of having M43 setup. I doubt there will ever be a fast wide zoom for M43.

Re: Mirrorless or EVIL Cameras

Need info on where to get reasonably priced Adapters for Nex. Looking at Leica M, M42 Screw, Canon FD etc.
