Alternatively, look at the iPad Mini.
If you can increase your budget a bit, the Galaxy Note 510 at about 28K is an awesome tablet (using it to type this post! !)
You may be right on the size. The camera however is sad so it automatically is out of the list.

Today in the battle of 7/8 inch tablets, these two models seem to be the best of the lot at very decent price points. In fact the 16GB version of Nexus starts at 16K. Nexus devices are fast, but however when it comes to display, its the iPad mini.
Here is a comparison between Kindle fire HD 8.9 & Ipad mini

NOTE:
A) 7" and 9+" tab are not my liking so they are out of this list.
B) While we can debate on the features, i have kept it simple - Better specs win.

Specs> kindle fire HD 8.9 > Ipad Mini > Score (winner gets 1, Loser gets 0)
Ram > 1gb > 512 mb > 1-0
Screen > 8.9 > 7.9 > 1-0
PPI > 254 > 163 > 1-0
Processor > dual core 1.5ghz > 1ghz > 1-0
Camera > 1.3 > 5mp (rear) + 1.2mp (front) > 0-1
Battery > 6000mah > 4400mah > 1-0
Price 16gb + wifi > 21k > 21K > 1-1
OS > Custom Amazon OS > IOS > 0-1 >
Video > No option > HD video recording > 0-1

Final Score: Kindle 6 points. Ipad Mini 4 points.

Features I definitely need > Winner
Screen size > Kindle
Camera > Ipad Mini
Videos > Ipad Mini
OS > Ipad Mini

Winner: Ipad Mini

This is a specs test drive. ipad's experience is so nice even ipad3 that it leaves most android tabs for dead. Not to mention, no lag any time in the future. Our two year old ipad2 is still as good as on day1. Lesser said about androids, the better.

That's certainly reassuring and do you / othere here recommend the earlier versions of ipad than retina one? Coz at some stores / online one can still find older versions. My budget is around 20k and I don't mind getting a bigger screen if its really reliable. I skipped older versions of ipad as the sales rep at reliance digital told that the display piece was the last one and that scary story of "sir after ipad 2, there has been 2 new ipad's... Hahaha...you are buying an old h/w.." Mental block successfully created.

Question do you want a 7/8 inch one or 10 inch one. If 10 inch ones, then no Mini. However I find the 7/9 inch ones a great travel companion.

I would recommend the ipad3 - a close relative has it and it is very nice.

I didn't find the 4 that faster (in my 10 min browsing). the retina display is definitely quite useful - I am happy with the ipad2 i have but if I had the ipad3, i would be happier and content in a non-itchy way! The ipad3 does make your SLR pics come alive.

Skype works very well. (You want to check it out?, PM me, let's try Skyping)
It is good for quick notes. It is very easy as well.
There is even an option so that just taking out the S-Pen opens the Note application straight from locked state.
Also, it is light enough, so that you can even hold the tablet in one hand and jot down with the other.

P.S. I have one

Hey guys. Really need your valuable insights on this one. All the local guys here are saying that there is no jailbreak available for 5.0. I want to get what's app and Cydia installed on my iPad 2. What option do I have??

Since the link showed ToI, I was wondering. In India, one doesn't get accurate info about *existing* models, forget upcoming ones. At last Google seems to realize BT & NFC are useful.

Even I had the same doubt before posting! Then I saw the same news in many sites. So I submitted the post. On hindsight, I should have posted one those Android portal links instead of ToI!

A few options:-
1. iBall Performance Series 3G 7334i Tablet
2. HCL ME Connect 2G 2.0 Tablet
3. Milagrow MGPT09-8 GB Tablet

But if you can push your budget to 12,000. I suggest you get this "Huawei MediaPad 7 Lite Tablet" It's running 4.0 but you can update it and Huawei make very good devices.

At 15k is the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 P3100. You'll have to get a discount because the MRP is Rs.15,999.
