I dont feel like drivng the Palio in the city, I ve been royally spoilt by Nano

Very unlikely my dad will let go of Palio . My thoughts are is Polo a significant upgrade over the Palio to give up the ultra convienence of Nano or should I get the Brio and be happy about it.

I wish Liva TRD 1.5 was available to consider

Coming from the Palio, I feel the Polo GT TDI would do justice. It is modern, safe, efficient and powerful enough.

Etios Cross 1.5 petrol IS the new avatar of TRD Liva it's brilliant to drive, superb interiors but somewhat expensive.

Good suggestion. I am alright with Etios Cross interiors, but why has Toyota modded a clean Liva to an ugly Wierd thing .

Micra is very easy to drive in city due to small turning radius. Not sure about its highway performance.

Figo is good to drive in city because of its wonderful all around visibility.Its a decent highway performer too.If you want to increase performance,You can always go for remapping and other similar stuffs.

Polo GT TDI and TSI are drool worthy cars..

Try Ford Ecosport also, Its compact and its height gives it a lot of advantage in city. Highway performance will also be good.

With a new family member going to join us it seems the right time for me to buy a car now.

My average monthly run :
1100 to 1200 KM, can go up or come down.

Must have Priorities :
ABS, Airbags and EBD.
Good lumbar support as I have a lumbar problem.
Comfortable seating for 5
Good ingress & Egress (for my elderly parents)
Fun to drive with exceptional road handling and suspension (for me )
Easy on pocket maintenance (reliable)
Smooth refined engine
Rear de-fogger/wiper
Good audio system

Least bothered features:
Chrome designing which our Indians usually like
Automatic climate control


Budget : upto 7 Lakhs ( might stretch 10 to 20 K )


All I am looking for is a car which will not bore me and bring a smile per drive. The only cars currently that I see meet this requirements are :

Suzuki Swift : Pricey ZDI variant, close to 8 Lakh

Fiat punto : Attractive discounts on the pre facelift models i.e. 1.3 mjd emotion :7.3 OTR, 90ps : 7.6 OTR (mouth watering). Not interested in the new model as it is merely facelift and doesn't match the looks of the old version.

Ford Figo : Titanium comes close to 7 Lakhs OTR but NVH levels were too high. Ingress & egress were a problem. Moreover, this will be dis-continued soon.

Ford classic : Titanium costs 8.5 which is out of budget. I have a soft spot on the classic but my budget can only afford the basic and mid variant. I don't want to repent through out my life for skipping the safety features.

Ritz zdi : the humble ritzy comes to 7 lakh OTR after discounts. A very close contender. If not any other cars in the above list I might end up buying this.


I am also worried on the much debated 'Diesel de-regulation' which is planned in this December. If that happens is not better buying a petrol car ?

Please help me with your valuable suggestions.

Hello friends,

I am looking for a compact car for 100% city use with a budget of 5 lacs. The car will be used in the most congested parts of my town and therefore, needs to be easily manoeuvrable and not too big in terms of dimensions. My basic requirements are:

*Easy to Drive in Congested Places
*Good FE
*Spacious
*Comfortable
*Easy to Maintain
*Should be as Safe as possible in this segment
*Sufficient feature list

I have short-listed the following options-
Honda Brio S/V MT
Maruti WagonR Stingray VXi(O)
Hyundai Grand i10 Magna/Sportz

Any other options from the team are very much welcome.

I can't suggest one name out of the 3 outright although I will explain the virtues of each on city driving basis. Optimum safety is hard to achieve unless budget is increased because it involves a mix of sturdy build, ABS & SRS.

Now among the 3 Grand i10 is the best built both inside and out in terms of load absorbing frame, gauge of sheet metal and proportions, also having the best interiors a segment above the others. Grand is also Euro NCAP tested while the other 2 aren't. The minus is however that ABS+SRS variant costs 6.5L. WagonR is quite old now and despite the updates I would not suggest it although it's good value at that price, if the variant does come with ABS then feel free to consider it. Brio has the best engine without doubt, given its light weight and low height the engine can perform much better in city conditions, minuses - the seats are too thin and interior wise it looks outmoded. Figo has the best built body-frame but it's 3 cyl petrol engine would not only be noisier but also less powerful given the weight. Service and long term maintenance wise Suzuki and Hyundai are on top so if ease of owning is also a factor choose between only those 2. FE is more or less same, unless +/-1 kmpl extra matters in thick traffic in which case the smallest engine & lightest weight (WagonR) will naturally consume less.

Hi all,

I have a Punto now and it will complete 5 years next month. Thinking of changing the car. There is nothing wrong, but it's 5 years and the EMI is getting over, so the urge to get a new car.

I love the car, it didn't give me any major issues in the 5 years. I like the build quality, driving comfort (except for the hard gear) and over control it gives. Naturally I checked Linea and I didn't like the new Linea interiors. The old one was simple and good and I think the changes destroyed the beauty. (My personal opinion as others and critics praise the new design).

One of my friends suggested Polo TSI. The car looks good and like the features. I have not done a test drive, will do it this weekend or next.

This is my thoughts / specifications / requirements.
1. Budget - around 10 Lacs
2. Car Type - I will be the only person in the car most of the time. So hatch would be fine. But I don't mind a sedan if a good car comes in the budget.
3. Driving - 20-30 Km daily and one Bombay-Bangalore trip in 6 months.
4. Fuel type - Petrol as I don't drive much daily.
5. Should be fully loaded - I mean top end of the model
6. Ride quality and comfort should be comparable with Punto Emotion Pk

Other than the comfort and control, few things I like in the Punto:
a. Auto-off headlights
b. One touch power windows (down for all 4 windows and up for driver side)
c. Bluetooth connectivity - it's great and I use it always.

In the Polo TSI, I liked the following:
a. Boot release with remote
c. Windows up and down using remote
d. One touch power windows (up and down for all 4)
e. Auto gear.
Only negative thing I found is Auto-off headlights NOT there.

Is Polo TSI a good choice to replace Punto? Any other cars to consider?

I would suggest you to look at the face-lifted Polo 1.5 TDI. It will not stay in the 7 lakhs cut-off you mentioned, but should be a great option if you can stretch your budget.

Alternately, since you don't like the the looks of the face-lifted Punto eve, maybe its a good idea to wait for the Evo launch, and you may get even more discounts on the pre-facelift stock.
