Mate, not jumping to conclusions but pinpointing the problem. The solutions you mentioned were one of the few tried by the MASS before changing the synchro rings on my car. And I personally know 3 car owners, who faced the same problem at varying Odo readings, and all of them were solved by changing the rings.

I would be one of those owners too who's syncro rings were changed during the initial period. I mentioned the clutch bleeding thing because for you they are already changed and for Dass, he has not even tried the bleeding thing, so directly changing the syncro ring is not a solution without trying the bleeding thing out. I just got my clutch bled 2 days back, it had the same shifting hard into 1st and reverse problem, after the bleed, its butter smooth.

Re: Maruti Service is cheap - A myth!

I haven not got the chance to take it for a check up yet. The other day, I got a call from my regular Maruti service center that I can get a 5k interval servicing also done, just for a general check up and they would give me a good discount too. I will probably take it then to get these checked out. My car has done around 12800 kms but I am not using it much off late, so probably will go in August and will update the outcome.

So there shall be a circular sent to all MASS on this subject soon I guess. The grade is 75W90 or is there any change?

Anurag.
The Grade remains the same. It seems Maruti Engineers tested the cars with Transmission oil for 20,40, 60k kms and confirmed that the life of transmission oil to be good for 40k kms.

I am wondering if this is just an eyewash to reduce the ownership/service cost as this is something they would have tried to test earlier too.

Re: Maruti Service is cheap - A myth!

This is the bill of the 40000 service of my swift zdi diesel. The cost for service was about 7200 Rs. Along with that I did nitrogen filling 125 Rs, pollution certificate 100 Rs and a water repelling coating on windshield 500 rs. So total is about Rs 7800 in the bill I uploaded. In this service important thing to note is that they didn't charge extra for the break overhaul/cleaning which they usually charge 400 Rs. The engine oil used is 5w40.

My heart skipped a beat for a moment, man! Please mention the kilometer part after the 40,000.

For a split second there, I felt that the Honda I drive was cheaper on maintenance!

I don't see an important item - Gear oil change. Not sure why this was left out.

That must be because Maruti will now replace gear oil every 40k kms instead of the earlier 20k kms interval for all Diesel cars of theirs.

Assuming they replaced the transmission oil during the 20k Service, it will only get replaced during the 60k service now.

Yes the gear oil was changed at 20000 kms. So it needs to be replaced at only 60,000 kms. They increased the changing intervals of gear oil to 40,000 kms in about January 2014

Re: Maruti Service is cheap - A myth!

My Alto completed 5years last week and underwent annual service at MSM:

Amount (Rs)

Gasket : 3.49
Oil Drain Plug: 18.34
Air cleaner element: 205.24 (I change it annually)
Oil filter assy: 78.60
Cons (PET) Part no. 90900M11889 104.80 (What is this?)
5 wheel balancing (weights only): 179.04
Brake Fluid GC 1500 AA (50 ml): 6.77 (Top up?)
Golden yellow coolant 100 ml : 20.52 (Top up?)
Grease, caliper assy : 55.90
Wind screen wash : 13.10
-------------
Total 685.80

Paid service 40k / 80k : 1325.00
Side slip & Brake tester charges 500.00 (Optional)
Wheel alignment 1.00
Wheel balancing 1.00
Service Tax & VAT 325.00
---------------
Total 2836.00

Engine oil Shell Helix HX7 3 litres (Mine): 1320.00
-----------------
Grand Total : 4156.00

The wheel alignment and balancing are free for insurance renewal at Maruti.

I wouldn't say this is very high, considering that even the Splendor incurs not less than Rs 1000.00 for a regular service at the A.S.S.

Re: Maruti Service is cheap - A myth!

Gave my car for the 60K service.

The Odo reading- 577XX kms.

The bill details are as below:

Maruti Service is cheap - A myth!-maruti-bill.jpg

The jobs undertaken:

1) All fluids changed. Engine oil, brake oil and coolant. Gear oil change was not required.

Air filter was cleaned and refitted. Change was not required and will be done in next 70K service.

2) Complete AC servicing, gas refilled and servicing. Cabin filter replaced.

3) Caliper greasing. This could have been done outside at 50% of the cost but preferred to stick to A.S.S

4) Paid service-Washing, vacuum and polishing(interior and exterior)+ Electrical.

5) Body rattles taken care of.

6) Driver door panels for driver and co-driver opened, packed and re-sealed.

7) Dashboard rattles fixed.

8) Wheel alignment and balancing not done as time for a tyre change.
Still on the Apollo OEMs.

I refused the Ambi pur perfume-Rs. 200/- which was billed to me without my knowledge. The amount was refunded back in cash.

----
I took the car for a 250 kms drive yesterday. The service was acceptable and the car handled well.
Got an average of 27.87 kms/kg of CNG which is very good.

I observed some rattles and a slight gap in the bumper and my perfectionist nature urged me to give the car back for fixing the same.

Have given the car to Fortpoint and they will address the issues.

OVERALL:
  • Satisfied with the response and the service done.
  • Also, found it to be reasonable in comparison to other A.S.S brands(I have owned FIAT and Ford before).
  • The team is co-operative
  • Have given the car for fixing some minor issues and they picked in from office without any ifs and buts.
  • Price comparo- Reasonable.

BTW, I stood in front of my baby during the entire servicing and could guide/instruct the technician for things that was not to my satisfaction.

Overall, satisfied both in terms of cost and workmanship.

Arnab,

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. One thing that I instantly noticed in your invoice is the charge for caliper pin Greasing - ₹ 350. Sai Service Borivali Had charged us ₹ 680 + taxes (total of 764) for the same job Our car is a Swift, but I don't think there would be such a huge difference between WagonR & Swift.

Beware of Sai Service.

Akmar,

Caliper Greasing is a pretty straight forward job and Rs. 764/- is very steep.

If you go to a FNG, they will quote approx. 200/- for the same. Since I wanted the servicing, I opted with MASS.

I have heard that Sai Service rips you. I f you stay this side of Thane, I have always had a decent experience with Fortpoint.

1) Squeaking noise from the rear left suspension
2) Boom sound (lugging like sound) at 1.8k or 2k (peak torque rpm) when accelerating in 4th or 5th gear.
3) oil leak near the front drive shaft suspecting a seal failure

They replaced the rear left shocks (Rs. 1302) and the rear beam assembly (Rs. 10576) under warranty as there was a squeaking noise coming from it. EGR was cleaned and they traced the issue of oil leak to Intermediate drive shaft needing replacement but part was not available. Have to take the vehicle back once it arrives.
The rear axle beam that has been replaced is actually a silent recall by Maruti. Please check my post here on this.
