I think the base model of Amaze Petrol will be equivalent to the second model ot Brio in terms of equipment and hence almost a match for dzire vxi.
Else more than a lakh and twenty thousand premium over Brio is bit too much to ask for.

Diesel top end if priced like this will be ideal considering 30-40ks over dzire zdi can be justified for a bigger and more powerful engine (if it is really a 90+bhp engine) . Honda brand being an added flavour.

I stand corrected - Amaze's petrol range might come in at 4.99L (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Amaze diesel might start from 6.29L onwards.
Variants will be same as Brio - E, S & V. No AT planned for now.

I am told that Honda is also mulling a diesel AT for the Amaze in the near future. No immediate plans for that though - the Brio-based MPV is next on the fast-track launch agenda, listed for 2014.

Those prices you mention are exactly the same as:

Which would mean Advantage Amaze? Or is the interior space on the Sail better?

The bigger question is, how is Honda managing such competitive pricing with the Amaze? Is it a sub 4 meter sedan? If yes, then that explains a lot.

Nope, actually Disadvantage Amaze. Honda is desperately trying to price it in the DZire territory, but they should have aimed it a bit lower (since DZire is based on the Swift, and Swift is not a direct Brio competitor). Price-to-price, the Amaze petrol might end up being trumped by the DZire petrol, since it offers more space, might have better engine refinement, the wider dealership/A.S.S. ratio, among others.

As for the Sail, it is definitely better in comparison, if interior space, quality of plastics, wheelbase, engine, etc. are taken into the equation.

I think the Amaze Diesel might turn out to be overpriced for what it offers, but Honda will advertise the "Indianised" Earth Dreams powerhouse of the Amaze as the "most fuel-efficient of it's class", and naturally, being a Honda, will try to command a small premium for it as well. That being said, they can't go too away from the DZire pricing if they want to stay competitive in this category. Yes, the Amaze is a sub 4-mtr sedan, and that's all the more reason for Honda to price it exactly right from the beginning, rather than overprice it initially, then start offering huge discounts on it/do a price correction at a later stage.

Overall, I feel 6.29L for the Amaze ED MT might still be a tad too expensive. If they can pull it down to around 6.09L for the base diesel, it could turn out to be a stunner of a launch price.

I believe Amaze will have much more space than Dzire! Atleast that's what the reviewers say right?

But as you said, the safe bet for Honda is to launch it a 20K lesser than Dzire who is the undisputed king for over 5 years!

I feel the Amaze can do well even if its priced a bit higher than the DZire. And Honda actually may want to maintain the so called premium player tag among the Japanese competition.

Re: Honda India : The Way Forward

I bet they can even pull off a Maruti-type Introductory price that undercuts the Dzire and then go up to something like 15k premium over the Dzire.

Another thing that Honda must do, is make people aware of the fact that their cars are very economical to maintain. Believe it or not, there are people who consider Honda to be a premium brand, and think that they would be charged heavily in the long run for Service. Some people will go for the Dzire if they fail to do this effectively.

Financial Chronicle has reported the chat with Jnaneshwar Sen, senior vice-president for marketing and sales at Honda Cars India which states that Amaze is launching in April and is coming with a diesel heart right away!

Quote:
Meanwhile, the company is gearing up for its much-awaited launch of its first diesel car in India – its all new Amaze, a compact sedan – in the next few weeks. “A new diesel engine will be introduced in the new model Honda Amaze to be launched in April 2013.

Re: Honda India : The Way Forward

According to Hormazd's scoop - Jazz production to be stopped.

Reason given by Honda - they want to wholly concentrate on the Brio, Amaze and their siblings.

This confirms my birdie's tweeted tidbit from earlier. I knew this was coming.

Sorry, Jazz lovers and Jazz prospective owners.

Hormazd just said that Honda is coming out with a All new Jazz, next year with a new petrol engine as well as a Diesel engine from day one.

It will be heavily localised & priced aggressively.

Re: Honda India : The Way Forward

From Hormazd:

Jazz production stopped for now but all new Jazz will be back in 2014. New Jazz in 2014 will be with diesel motor.

Jazz stopped since production was expensive and Honda wasn't making money on Jazz. Also need to make way for Amaze and Brio production.
