re: 2012 Honda City launched. Pics on page 11

As usual a mid cycle cosmetic Facelift for City.It still remains the benchmark C segment Petrol Sedan - Executive edition looks most VFM on paper, remains to be seen how the black interiors look.

Having said that, i expect the current discounts on City to continue in new year once Honda ramps up production - Petrol cars cant sell in our market without heft discounts - Fact of life.

I haven't driven the ZX variant so can not comment much about it.

But if proper technique is followed (the angle approach) one can definitely avoid speed breakers even with passengers and cargo. I have driven with only four adults (average size) and didn't face any issue, haven’t driven with five adults.

One of my friends is planning to buy the Swift DZire petrol and is getting no discounts on it. I'm sure the DZire sells a decent number of petrols despite no discounts. A well priced Petrol car should pretty much sell itself - any car priced at a premium (especially a petrol) will need discounts. Lots of people have an average daily run of about 12 - 15 km and that doesnt really justify paying 1 lakh over the cost of petrol.

Thanks.

Does the chrome treatment on the AC knobs make them look less hideous? Also, what is your impression on the fit and finish quality?

Must be pretty much the only petrol sedan in the country with no discounts Having said that, i agree that a well priced petrol car shouldnt need discounts. But City needed discounts in the pre-F/L version and i dont see any blockbuster features added in this version to make it sell without discounts.

The interiors are certainly an improvement. Dealbreaker for me not getting the current-gen ANHC was how garish it looked. This is something I can get on board with.

Have reccoed the AT+Sunroof model to a friend who is in the market.

Nothing radical about this new design. It's amazing how Honda has done this the other way around, quite unusual, but has worked. Reign the market for almost a decade, bring in a minor facelift, DECREASE the prices to take on the competition, take on major bookings and take back the leader's position. Not a bad way of doing it, i'd say! Now, only if they do the same to the all new upcoming CRV.

@Sidindica - Thanks a lot for the pics in flesh

The pics on the brochure looks horrible. I felt the car looked better pre-facelift. But, after seeing it in flesh, I would not say that.

I do not fancy sunroof and cruise control, but I would have really liked ACC. I feel the pricing is really good.

What is this new version called? - Exceptional? So, it was the OHC, NHC, ANHC, and HCE (Honda City Exceptional) now?

Hmm the new city, well is what i expected it to be! Does the sunroof slide open?? because from the brochure pics it looks like its a flap! I guess the city has adjustable headrest at the rear now with anti pinch feature for the windows. All and all it looks good but i would say slightly pricey for the leather interior models!I wonder if people want to spend 10.22(ex showroom) lakhs for AT with a sunroof??

Anyone knows if Honda has discontinued its add on package like the inspire, elegance ...

Yuck!

The chrome looks terrible in real; what were they thinking getting that hideous chrome grill and.. chrome on the a/c knobs : unforgiveable.

I am really glad I have the 2008 version. I wonder if anyone in their right minds of sanity would buy the V variants; I'd die of shame showing off all the chrome!

Its just a souped up cosmetic job. How long will the car makers fool the public. Invest here and there on silly cosmetic changes and the public goes gaga all over the car. Nice way to make money. Its about time we demanded proper upgrades that have their light of day in 2012. Just look at what the customers get in US and Europe at prices lower than ours.
