Re: Ford EcoSport Preview @ Auto Expo 2012. EDIT : Indian Spy Pics on Pg. 33

It seems that Ford won't begin producing the Ecosport in India before next year.

Here's the link to an article dated September 6, 2012 from the Wall Street Journal.

It seems the Ecosport is also going to be launched in Europe in the next 18 months (as per report published by IAB ----> http://indianautosblog.com/2012/09/ford-ecosport-unveiled-for-european-markets?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm _campaign=Feed%3A+IndianAutosBlog+%28Indian+Autos+ blog%29&utm_content=Yahoo!+Mail)

Its interesting to see that Ford India has taken the magazine review seriously. Especially the price estimation made by Autocar would defenitly enlighten Ford India with what Indian customers expect from this American manufacturer and the price bracket too.
By this we do expect Ford won't repeat the mistake they have commited when they fixed the variants and the pricing of the fiesta sedan.

Thanks for the video.
Well having driven the figo for 2+ years now I can really understand the excitement of the anchor when he talks about handling and dynamics of the ecosport. He was spot on when he spoke about the ride quality over rough roads owing to the stiffer suspension, its quite similar to the figo. If you are an enthusiast you will really enjoy driving a ford. And thats the reason I test drove the New fiesta a number of times despite knowing the fact that I wont be owing one due to the high pricing. Price the ecopsort correctly and surely Ford would have a winner!

Re: Ford EcoSport Preview @ Auto Expo 2012. EDIT : Indian Spy Pics on Pg. 33

The video talks certain points besides the fun of driving, and no body roll:

- Takes small potholes easily and larger ones with a thud.
- This I think is typical Ford in what I have seen with Fusion.
- So expect not so flat a ride

- The rear doors are a bit smaller than the front.
- Hence expect a bit difficulty in getting in ?
- Though it says decent rear space, but also mentions in the same vein about not to expect a great leg room.
- Does it mean problems with real long drives?
- Also talks of upright seating. (No reclining seats ?)

Looks like a just bit of compromise on the rear seating.

Rear seat row is slightly reclinable as mentioned in the review.

And the rear doors are quite ok sized (hatchback sized length but placed higher and taller) but look puny coz the front doors are huge.

Source - i saw a test mule on the outskirts of gurgaon 4 days back.

What I find interesting is that it does NOT say Ecosport would do 963 kms usually in one tank, but one is led to feel the same.

Good advertising, and I hope the product matches up to it!

Cheers,

I think Ford is doing the right thing by focusing on range. This is one good way they can differentiate their Petrol engine and compete in a Diesel dominated market. Actually, their claim may not be as far fetched as it seems. Assuming the 1 L Ecoboost manages a highway fuel efficiency of 18 kmpl, and with a 52 liter fuel tank, the range would come to 936 KM!

Also, there is a good chance that additional tax on Diesel cars may come into effect by the time the Ecosport is launched. From what I read in today's papers, this may mean anything from 1.7 Lacs to 2.25 Lacs of additional duties on the Diesel variant. That will make the 1.0 Ecoboost variant a very competitive proposition.

Re: Ford EcoSport Preview @ Auto Expo 2012. EDIT : Indian Spy Pics on Pg. 33

Honestly, I found the Autocar Video Review quite one-sided. Now, I too am a fan of SUVs and happen to be at the threshold of replacing may car, and no doubt most eagerly await this mini monster but to say that everything is so good about it seems like an over-statement. While I would love to pleasantly surprised but I feel they extolled the car's virtues a tad too much.

By the way, I have read a few threads about Ford cost of ownership which seems to be on a much higher size compared specifically to Suzuki or Toyota or even Honda. I hope a higher degree of localisation takes care of this aspect.

Any comments from current Ford owners regarding cost of ownership, specifically, so as to correlate it to Ecosport?
