People said the same when they launched the Scorpio, look at the untouched success of Scorpio today.

Then people said they can never sell the XUV if they price it above 10-11 Lacs since people will better buy a Toyota for that price. Today the XUV retails at 16-17 Lacs on road and still has consistent 3000 buyers every month.

Mahindra knows the Indian market very well. The only blunders they made were -

* Ignored styling while designing the Xylo
* Instead of letting it rest in it's grave, they went ahead & made the Quanto!

I have no idea how good the S101 will be, but I am sure that it will be have a great engine, good NVH & tough build. Plus it will be loaded with features & offered at a very competitive price.

Re: Scoop Pic! Mahindra's S101 Mini-SUV spotted

I've spotted these test mules on two different days - first on 100' Road near Anna Nagar West Bus Terminus, and the second time on MTH Road, Padi.

They were heavily camouflaged, as in these pictures, so I couldn't make out too many details. Even the headlamps and tail lamps were decoy units - basic circular ones.

From close quarters, it looks like a sub-4m hatchback with good GC and a tall boy seating position. Ford's EcoSport would be the closest vehicle to this one on dimensions. And that is unsurprising, as both are meant to be sub-4m compact SUVs.

The folks at Mahindra need to develop a petrol engine range soon. With diesel prices inching closer to petrol by the day, there would be a sizable demand for petrol-powered compact SUVs and MUVs. The Ertiga and EcoSport, and to a lesser extent the Duster/Terrano twins are examples of this trend. Mahindra cannot afford to miss out on these numbers, as they have already been overtaken by Honda for the third spot on the podium on the monthly sales charts.

It did look like a raised Swift-sized hatchback, or somewhat closer to the EcoSport.

I doubt if those are double-barrel projectors, though. To me, they looked like a decoy headlamp cluster, with basic individual units for the low beam, high beam and indicator, much like the decoy tail lamp cluster in the previous pictures. They'll most likely be replaced by double barrel reflector headlamps (or one with a projector for the low beam) on the production variants.

I don't think this is going to compete with the Celerio or Wagon R. The Ford EcoSport and the upcoming XA-α from Maruti Suzuki are its most likely competitors.

In my opinion, they also need to work on 1.5L 4 cylinder diesel. And that I think would be the most critical cog in the wheel for them. They need to come out of the current 3 cylinder version being used in the Quanto.

Re: Scoop Pic! Mahindra's S101 Mini-SUV spotted

So Mahindra is trying to be the Maruti in UV segments. All in all, better for the customers. I hope all these have great styling and the VFM quotient maintained.

Between, I read the Quanto is going to be face-lifted. Is it NOT a next generation model? I doubt how much can a better interior help the Quanto. It's a complete failure in the looks department.

Well, I just hope Mahindra doesn't follow the likes of Etios Cross and Cross Polo to come up with Verito Vibe Cross!

Spotted this test mule near Maraimalai Nagar toll plaza (Chennai-Trichy Highway) on 1st October 2014 evening. I think this is Mini-SUV from Mahindra.

I guess these are the first pics where we can clearly see the grill part, looks similar to new scorpio's grill.

Re: Scoop Pic! Mahindra's S101 Mini-SUV spotted

Looks like this test mule, has some design inputs from SsangYong.

MM is pretty much on the way to become a SUV only producing company, minus the verito.

Spotted this test mule at Thanglalnla pass during my recent ladakh drive.
Unfortunately, could not take more close ups as i was refrained from doing so by the guy in picture.
infact, the guy seemed pretty pissed off seeing me click the pics

Re: Scoop Pic! Mahindra's S101 Mini-SUV spotted

Ladakh is turning out to be a favorite test ground these days for test mules.

XUV 500 behind the mule and the pickup ahead makes it an easy find as a MM test mule.

Is the guy in the 2nd snap pretty tall or the vehicle so small? It looks to have the dimensions of the swift with a butch front.

When I saw it recently it seemed to be as tall as the Ecosport but not taller. This is good considering the short wheelbase.

Looks like better than a Etios Cross to me. This should have been the product from Mahindra instead of Verito Vibe.
