Just yestreday got the front RHS bearing & the RHS lower ball joint replaced in my 9 year old Indica DLX @ 130K kms from a private garage. Charges were as below:

Front RHS Bearing 840.00
RH Lower ball joint 390.00
Total - Part Charges 1,230.00
RH Lower ball joint change labor 100.00
Front RHS Bearing change labor 250.00
Discount -30.00
Total - Labour Charges 320.00
Grand Total 1550.00

This mehanic doesn't sell the spares. He only gave me an idea about how much it might cost. Anyways, I checked with 2 other garages and have been asked to replace the suspension which will cost north of 4K. The Hyundai guys are quoting 7K and a labour charge of 2K.

I'm going to the first mechanic, ask him to open the suspension system and then assess the damage, make a list of parts required and then go parts shopping.

Your approach is right. But, make sure you buy the spares from a reliable place where you can have peace of mind that the parts are original.

IMO, It would be safest to buy the spare parts from HASS even though they are priced a bit higher.

Atleast, you would be sure of the parts used. For costs, you'll be saving on the Labor charges front.

You may buy it from any ASS for 199. Else if you come to Mumbai, you can borrow and copy off the relevant sections from my copy. Note that this does not have prices.

Guys, SAME oil filter for the SAME Fiat 1.3mjd engine is Rs.411/- for TATA and Rs.255/- for Fiat.

They may have the 'rights' to do it, but is it ethical for TATA to do this? Its practically the EXACT SAME thing, and they've inflated the price to 160%!!!

Fiat OE oil filter also retails for rs411 on the same site. See below. What you get for rs 255 is same Sofima (UFI) aftermarket filter which I believe is equally good. OE marked products are usually priced expensive that their similar aftermarket counterparts.

I am hearing a distinct grunt from the exhaust/silencer of my Swift ZXI. Checked with the local repair shop and he says that the silencer is worn out and needs to be replaced. Is there a way that the silencer could be repaired without replacing. How much would it cost.
