I do is press boot unlock button on key. Since I do not want to unlock car and ask the security to fiddle & press the boot release button beside camera.
30 mins expired to edit my post above. So quoting again.

To set a desired opening height of the boot, Navigate to:
- Settings > Tailgate > Using the iDrive knob, adjust the height to which the boot opens.

Further:
- A one time lift of the button opens the boot fully to the set height above.

- If one wants to open only till a certain height (for example tight mall parking spots), lift and hold the button.
When desired height is achieved (so that the boot doesn't hit wall or ceiling), release the button.
The boot will stay open only at that height.

Do note though that this is a NA Market X1.
But these buttons are standard package of BMW and should be there in Asian market cars also.
This button is missing in the Indian versions. You can go to the first page of this thread and see the door images. There are no buttons in those spots.

OMG ! Just saw it on the first page pictures !

It is a glaring omission by BMW in the name of cost cutting in India !
Even my 5 lakhs Chevy Beat had a boot opener inside the car, accessible to the driver. Heck, even an Alto has it

Why do we need seperate boot opener and fuel lid opener. Most modern car im India including likes of Grand i10 have boot opening linked to central locking. Just open the central locking and let the guard touch the request senser or manual button to open the boot. Speed linked auto lock or remote linked central lock ensures you don't forget to lock it.

Button on remote is for owner to access the boot without opening the car doors. Olden days one had to unlock from remote, open the driverside and release boot or fuel lid. No more doing those.

Happy to disagree
I don't find these things as anything connected to cost cutting. Personally I prefer to fiddle with less buttons in the car than dedicated buttons for anything and everything. It's a pain to see buttons all over the place. Latest technology is all going touch based. So why fill up every panel in a car with buttons. Whatever cars I have used in the X1 to Cayenne range, less clutter is beautiful. Minimalist is the future. Tesla is the best example. Other brands are going the same path.

Seriously too much cost cutting for simple basic features.

Re: Next Gen BMW X1 Launched @ Auto Expo 2016

I think the X1 in India doesn’t have a powered boot lid, hence doesn’t get the button inside the cabin. Hence being mechanical you can’t adjust the height of the opening as well.

Re: Next Gen BMW X1 Launched @ Auto Expo 2016

Sorry to repeat this query:
1) Does anyone have lock/unlock sound?
2) If yes, how did you get it?

My car just flashes indicator lights when locked/unlocked which can be switched off from settings but there's no option for sound.

I recently saw a movie "Sonu ke titu ki sweety" which has the new X1 and it sounds when locked/unlocked.

I guess BMW has kept this feature locked. Should be possible by using a programming cable.

Not sure about X1, but I don't see any option to enable lock/unlock sound in my 330i GT. And I would not go by the sound from the movie. Most probably, it is a sound track added during post processing.

Whomever friends I have owning X series, 3 series, 5 series and 7 series, none have a lock/unlock sound. So, what you heard in the movie must be after market fitting. If you search for accessories on Ali Express or any such online sellers, there are tons of stuff available.

Anyone here added or upgraded something to the stock music system ?
Anyone modded their exhaust note with a muffler or active sound devices ? Appreciate some input

The regular music system in the BMW is average for its segment. I have read some very good reviews about BavSound (BHPian The Saint has them in his 320d). This is a plug and play speaker set for the BMWs. Their Stage-1 upgrade comes with all the speakers and Stage-2 with subwoofers. Check it out in the below link.

I had asked about this brand on the forum last year but none responded. If you know this member please let me know his direct contact. I like to ask how to get it to India without duty hassles.

You could use the PM feature to contact him. Also, I don't think there is any way you can import it without duty. You will have to figure about 35% of the cost as duty.

I already messaged him yesterday but no response. US to India with duty, taxes and shipping make it a foolish buying because we have very competent upgrade shops in India with reputed brand items used. Last time I checked with an ex bhpian, he wanted my car in his garage for 3 weeks. I found it impractical. His quote was 1.50 lakh+ with DSP, speakers, wiring, installation etc.

The boot in X1 is electrically open/close but and not powered self lifting tail gate like Endeavour. Its like Grand i10, wherein you have a request sensor, which activates opening of mechanical lock and you need to lift the gate manually. The request sensor is linked to central locking, which in turn is linked to remote, which also houses a dedicated button for tail gate opening.

I believe the USA model of X1 is the same except that it has additional switch on driver's door, which works in parallel to request sensor.
