Confirmed. Just saw the live stream. They confirmed a 6 speed manual and a 7 speed DCT. So I guess it's only Petrol with the automatic. Unless the same DCT can be used on the diesel as well.

In my opinion, the right price would be in the range of 17-23 lakhs ex showroom, this will entice potential XUV, Hexa, Innova, Octavia & Tucson customers to Jeep.
Anything more, you are dead on arrival, in this cost conscious place.

Re: Scoop! 2017 Jeep Compass spotted in India

Price is just one aspect. What is the opinion on the A.S.S? Does FCA enjoy a good reputation in India and is the A.S.S network large enough? Hyundai and Honda at least have that aspect sorted out. As per their website, there is no dealer in Pune. Surprising since their manufacturing facility is Ranjangaon which is very close to Pune. Not sure who will provide service, Fiat or someone else.

It should be Fiat, IMO.

If a company like Renault with its limited network in India can sell 5K Dusters per month once upon a time and 10K Kwids now, then Jeep also can find takers if it is priced aggressively.

Scoop! 2017 Jeep Compass spotted in India-compass.jpeg

The interiors weren't revealed to media. Media trails to happen in June. FCA says Compass is still in pre-production stage and manufacturing to begin in June.

Compass being manufactured in 50 different trim/power-terrain/transmission and color combinations, so lots of choices for buyers.

The emphasis was clearly on the off road capabilities and state of the art manufacturing processes, design, Jeep DNA.

Re: Scoop! 2017 Jeep Compass spotted in India

NDTV auto has given some details about Jeep Compass launch. Link

Quote:
What is possibly one of the most anticipated and awaited SUVs of the year, Jeep India has officially taken the wraps off the India spec Jeep Compass. Launched originally in November 2016, the Compass will be the first Jeep to be Made in India. Although the car has not been officially launched yet, expect Jeep India to announce prices and launch the car in the second half of 2017 - well before the festive season - with extremely competitive prices. The Jeep Compass should be priced at under Rs 20 lakh in India will take on a slew of cars ranging from the Hyundai Creta, Mahindra XUV500 and the Tata Hexa on the lower end of its price point and the likes of the Hyundai Tucson too.
Jeep Compass
₹ 20 - 25 Lakh *
( Expected Price )
Expected Launch : Apr 2017
Mechanically, the Jeep Compass features two engine options. The petrol will be a 1.4 litre 4-cylinder turbocharged unit with over 160 Bhp and 260 Nm of peak torque. The more popular engine choice of course will be the diesel 2.0 litre 4-cylider turbocharged motor which will produce over 170 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. The gearboxes on offer will be a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic. The Jeep Compass will get a four-wheel-drive system, which will get Jeep’s terrain response system. The driving modes will include Snow, Sand and Rock options, which change the characteristics of the power delivery and drive dynamics of the SUV.

While the design of the Compass remains the same as the international model, the Compass is built on the ‘small-wide 4x4 architecture’ that underpins the Renegade. In terms of overall design, the Jeep Compass has taken inspiration from a range of Jeep models. From the front end and overall stance that is very reminiscent of the premium SUVs from the Jeep brand i.e. the Grand Cherokee and Cherokee, to the tell tale seven slat grille, the Jeep DNA is very obvious. The trapezoidal rear fender paying homage to the original Willys and the overall stance of the compact SUV is quite unique and aggressive especially for this category. The Compass also features LED daytime running lights and LED tail lamps that Jeep says is inspired from the Iron Man series. The Jeep Compass will also get a black roof option, which does make the car look a lot premium and should be a very very popular choice for Indian customers.

The Jeep Compass will be Jeep’s first model to be rolled out of the Ranjangaon plant and will be the most affordable model to come out of the Jeep stable in India. The Indian plant will also be the one of the only factories in the world that will make the right hand drive versions of the car which will then be exported to RHD countries the world over. The total investment in the new and updated Jeep India factory has been over $280 Million. Although is it Made in India, Jeep has been very vocal about the fact that it is not another ‘Made-for-India’ model and more of a global product. Kevin Flynn, President and MD of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, India Operations says, “This is a global product and we are glad that our Indian plant has been given the responsibility of producing the Compass for the world.” The Made-in-India Jeep Compass will make it to right hand drive export markets and the company will take advantage of the Make-in-India model. The Compass in India will be offered in 50 different permutations and combinations giving the Indian audiences a wide variety of choices.

The Compass will be added to the Jeep India portfolio, in which the Wrangler starts at around ₹ 56 lakh and the Grand Cherokee comes at between ₹ 93 lakh and Rs 1.1 crore.

Re: Scoop! 2017 Jeep Compass spotted in India

If the final price band is within what is being bandied about, and Fiat-Chrysler can pull up their socks with respect to their service quality & service network spread, then the Compass can be serious competition to the existing players in the 20 - 30 lakh bracket.
Maybe even chip away at the almighty Fortuner's sales?

Logically, FCA should follow this up with the Jeep Renegade, and then Fiat should seriously launch the 500X and 500L, then extend itself to launching the Panda both in 2WD and 4x4 guise.

Why haven't Jeep given any indication of the price? What's the point of a launch with out a price band indication? They should have at least given a price band.

Maybe because this was just an unveil not a launch per-se, the launch is slated for sometime in June, which hopefully should be a mega-event. The prices would be revealed then only.

It would be great if they surprise everyone with a killer Introductory pricing to disrupt the market and then take it slowly by hiking the pricing; just like what Ford did with Ecosport. It seems pretty logical to go this route but don't know how they look at it and what they expect from the product.

Going by the news, FCA is banking heavily and are very serious for the Compass; let's hope they understand the impact a sticker price is going to make despite this being a Jeep. The brand though big might not have the sufficient pull in Indian market as regards to it's competitors.

The big task for the Compass would be to make name for itself in the market while building the Jeep brand. I have seen the car personally and it is droolworthy with immense road presence. This most certainly is a big opportunity for FCA and they have to give it all with a whole-hearted effort, no half measures.

Edit: I believe today's event was for the media, so was TBHP invited? Can we expect any official post regarding the details disclosed?

A third possible reason could be the upcoming launch of Isuzu Mu-X, which IIRC is slated for May 11. The Mu-X, although not a compact SUV, is rumored to boast a pricing that is on par or slightly above with XUV/Hexa.
