I think you meant 1.6 MPI. Yes, its not a very exciting engine to drive and feels just about okay. The Vento's smaller yet turbo-charged 1.2 TSI would be more engaging and fun to drive compared to the NA 1.6 especially since its mated to DSG. If you want a fun-to-drive car then either go with Rapid 1.5 TDI DSG or Vento 1.2 TSI if you strictly want petrol sedan only. Rapid's 1.6 MPI MT/AT is very reliable but takes its own sweet time to build pace and you will get bored of it soon if you are coming from turbo-charged cars. Other options are Honda City iVTec and Verna 1.6 both of which are superior in terms of performance compared to Rapid's 1.6.

Thanks. Am very against the City simply because of the CVT. Drove the new Jazz recently and the CVT was absolutely horrendous. Just no feel and acceleration was atrocious. Not clear on why people rave about it as I personally felt I’d have preferred a manual to the bilge I was faced with in that.

The Verna - my concern is build quality. My primary car is the Octavia 1.8 TSI DSG and I really like the fact that while it flies, it feels really solid! Never had such a feeling in any Japanese or Korean car. Again, the last few Hyundais I TDed had pretty awful AT boxes (albeit they were all 4-speed).

You should try the City CVT, it has a lot more power and torque compared to the anaemic Jazz. Like all CVT's, there will be a rubber band effect but fortunately it's got the S mode along with paddle shifters. The sheer amount of space you get with the City is an added bonus.

The Hyundai's you've driven are a generation old, the new Verna is an excellent product with all the bells and whistles. The ride and handling too is sorted and so is the good old 6 speed torque converter auto box.

I've driven both these cars extensively, and I am leaning towards the slanted H brand. If rear legroom or the lack of it does not bother you, you should seriously consider the Verna.

All the best.

Been searching the forums Any 1.5 TDI manual owners here who have remapped their cars and would care to share experiences?
Mine is a Polo TDI and it has been remapped with Quantum. I don't know the exact figures of power and torque but the car is superman brisk even at full load. I like what the remap has done especially after their diesel fix which had muted the beast inside.

If you have the money go for it. You will never regret it.

Congratulations !!
What was the cost of Audio OEM horn ? Could you post a video with the sound of the horn ?

That DVR is looking like an OEM fitment. Could you share the URL ? Is it directly connected to battery or the cigarette lighter ?

All the accessories are sourced from Vagtune(An exclusive VAG accessories centre based in Kochi, Kerala). The horn sounds is similar to that of Audi vehicles. There is a YouTube video of the same horn which I had done on my polo 4 years back. Here is the link -

What's the ideal tyre pressure for Rapid tdi dsg with 195/55 R16 tyres? It recommends 38 for front and 35 for rear.

I'm interested to know more about this Philips 55W LED Low beam upgrade. The stock is horrible at night and at highway speeds. Does this require wire-cutting, relays etc? Or direct plug and play?

If plug and play, where can I purchase this from?

Thanks mate!

I got it done from Vagtune. It's plug and play as far as I know. But the rubber panel which covers the headlamp assembly needs to be cut to accommodate the led though. You can purchase it via online - vagtune.in

1. What all are the skoda apps that works with rapid?
for the apps you need to register with your email id and mobile number and an OTP will be sent to activate the skoda app.
2. Brochure mentions
But I'm not able to shift from D to S without pressing the lock button. Is that normal?
Yes this is normal as a safety feature so the driver will not move the lever back and forth. This same functionality is to be used for the change into R and without the lever in P, the ignition key will not be released as well.
3. I'm not able to switch off the device after holding the volume roller button.
I have not tried the same with the roller button but try with the volume button pressed from the dash and it should switch it off. The same query can be answered by the service center as well.

Re: 2016 Skoda Rapid Facelift : A Close Look

Skoda Rapid to get 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine with DSG transmission.

Quote:
Last year, we reported that the Volkswagen Group's sophisticated 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine will be made locally, given Skoda's plans to achieve over 90 percent localisation for its models under the ‘India 2.0’ project. Now, the Czech carmaker has confirmed that the Rapid sedan will be equipped with the 1.0-litre TSI motor, replacing the current 1.6 MPI (EA111).

Expected to be introduced around early next year, the new EA 211 series will be BS6-compliant and could effectively be the only powertrain on offer for the Rapid as VW's current 1.5-litre diesel will also not be upgraded to meet the stricter emission norms that will come into force from April 2020.

"We will not have a diesel in the Rapid but will replace that with a very efficient petrol engine – a 1.0-litre TSI. It is an extremely efficient engine giving a much better fuel economy than the current MPI, which has often been criticized a little for the fuel economy and efficiency," Zac Hollis, director – sales, service and marketing, Skoda Auto India told Autocar India in an interview.

Hollis also confirmed that the petrol Rapid, for the first time, will get an option of a high-tech 7-speed DSG dual-clutch unit, which will replace the old-school 6-speed torque converter automatic that was paired with the 1.6 MPI. At present, only the diesel Rapid gets the option of a DSG.

In international markets, the three-cylinder turbo-petrol model is available in two states of tune – 95hp/160Nm and 115hp/200Nm – and the Rapid is likely to get the more powerful of the two versions. If brought to India in the same tune, the 1.0 TSI in the Rapid will score higher on both power and torque compared to the 105hp and 153Nm torque output of the current 1,598cc petrol.

The new engine could also be equipped on Volkswagen's replacement for the Vento for India. The direct-injection unit is more compact, lighter and generates less friction, thus operating more efficiently.

While diesel will not be an option for VW and Skoda's small cars for India, the Czech carmaker is currently studying the feasibility of upgrading the 2.0-litre diesel to meet the BS6 emission norms. "The investments in BS6 for diesel will force the price of cars to go up in the future. For a customer, it actually that makes the business case for buying a diesel a lot less weaker than before. In my personal opinion, the market will move more towards petrol going forward," said Hollis.

Re: 2016 Skoda Rapid Facelift : A Close Look

Hi guys,

I am considering buying the Rapid Diesel but with the diesel model facing the axe next year, would it be a wise decision to get one now? How would that affect the availability of spare parts in the future?

Any suggestions on a good dealer in Mumbai (Currently in touch with JMD, Thane) and discounts offered would be appreciated.

I don’t think there will be any issue with spare parts availability for next 5-7 years atleast as this is a common and old engine.
There are many FNGs which should be able tp source the parts also.
