Today completed 6k kms in approximately 3 months of ownership. Truly enjoying the DSG. Few upgrades
1. Roof painted black
2. Logos blackened
3. Ceramic coating done.
One downgrade too. Seat covers removed. The quality is poor and above that ASC guys had made multiple punctures with needles into the stock seat for a snug fit. But I felt the stock seats are way better than those covers. The under thigh support is better with the stock one.

Car looks even more beautiful after ceramic coating. How different is it to drive the Rapid in comparison to your Polo TDI ?

Car looks great with all the chrome removed. Nothing beats the mean looks of a Skoda design. One question: Is the hand rest part of the stock setup ? One of the very few usable designs , if it is indeed part of the stock setup.

It is surely a bliss to drive. The DSG does its job nicely. Actually I love my auto gearbox of Rapid than my W212 torque converter gearbox. The power delivery with 110 bhp is way better than 90bhp polo.

Thank you. But I couldn't change the logo to black with red background

But I'm not able to get it anywhere except from superskoda. Even the local guys pulled up saying that the perfection can't be guaranteed with custom painting.
Hand rest is stock one.

Re: 2016 Skoda Rapid Facelift : A Close Look

The sickness of special-edition is contagious among the VAG products.

Now Skoda Rapid Rider launched at ₹ 6.99 lakhs(ex-showroom, Pan India)

2016 Skoda Rapid Facelift : A Close Look-1.jpg

The special-edition Skoda Rapid is only available with the 1.6 petrol-manual engine-gearbox option and costs about Rs 1 lakh less than the base Rapid Active petrol variant.

Quote:
Only available in Candy White and Carbon Steel exterior paint shades, the limited-run model’s outside has contrasting elements in the form of an all-black grille, black decals on the doors, along with blacked-out B-pillars and trunk lip. The same 15-inch steel wheels with wheel covers that are available on the base Rapid Active trim come with the special-edition model.

The interior of the Rapid Rider gets a dual-tone finish – Ebony Sand (black) on the dashboard that contrasts with the Ivory Slate (white) upholstery. The scuff plates on this limited edition model also get a Rapid inscription.

In terms of features, the Rapid Rider seems to be specced identical to the Rapid Active variant. As such, safety kit includes dual front airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, an anti-glare rear view mirror and a rear defogger. Other creature comforts like remote central locking, a front and rear-centre armrest, tilt and telescopic adjustable power steering, a 2-DIN audio system that is USB AUX and Bluetooth compatible, four speakers, and rear AC vents are expected to be standard.

From a quick read, the feature list looks almost identical to the Rapid Active petrol variant, so what is the catch (other than that it's a Skoda ).

Are they using this variant to reduce the starting price of Rapid?

With all the essentials included, this looks like a very good alternate to sub 4M sedans. How is 1.6 in terms of performance and efficiency.

The 1.6 engine is a no non-sense NA workhorse. It has ample power for city use and would suffice on highways as well. As long as you are not addicted to turbo engines, this is a great option. It returns about 8-11 within city and 12-14 on highways. With this new variant, I feel it is one of the best options out there for those who are looking at petrol Sedan cars within 10 lacs. It is extremely well built, the design is timeless (subjective) and drives well as well. You will feel slight lack of power only when there is more load on engine like while climbing up ghats with fully loaded car, otherwise it is smooth and silent for day to day use. The only issue is the infamous Skoda ASS which is a gamble in some places, they are improving but still not there yet. Also the yearly maintenance is a bit high at 7-10K every year mostly due to use of fully synthetic engine oil which costs around 4K, not sure if this has changed though.

Would you mind posting a zoomed in picture of the seats? Are the holes very visible?

Re: 2016 Skoda Rapid Facelift : A Close Look

This is extremely value for money offering by Skoda @ INR 6.99 Lac. The 1.4 NA Verna (entry level trim) begins from INR 8.08 Lac.

A full sedan with possibilities of buying large number of accessories and upgrades (being a VW) is something that should be looked at very seriously.

With RTO charges and Insurance, the car can be on road at around INR 8.5 Lacs which is a steal !

Re: 2016 Skoda Rapid Facelift : A Close Look

So my friend is looking to book his Rapid; the dealer from Thrissur is quoting around 9.5L on-road for the 1.6 Petrol and 11.6L on-road for the 1.5 Diesel, both MT in Ambition trim.

He was planning for the Diesel MT initially, but seeing the ~2L price difference between the Petrol and Diesel, he is thinking if it is better to go for the former.

From what is written here, the engine of choice seems to be the Diesel, and he has also loved driving it. Hasn't driven the Petrol one.

What do the folks here think? Should he save the 2L and go for the less preferred engine choice or is it better to go for the Diesel.

Ask your friend to take a test drive of the petrol car. Individual preferences differ from person to person. Someone who loves the torquey nature of a Diesel engine will never understand the fun of working gears in a free revving petrol engined car and vice versa. Let him decide what he wants, rather than being ‘if I had spent 2 Lakhs more, I could have.....’.

I would have definitely asked your friend to go for petrol if it was Honda City.
