Wow. Thank God I didnt go to TGIP. What a lame excuse for an "off roading" event.
The entire thing looks so out of place in those mall premises.

Liked the colors available - The Blue looks striking!


Comes with front sensors - check out the Grill Image and the full frontal - on our LHS while viewing (this is a LHD) - Just above the bottom chrome line of the bumper - there is a Circular component with a Glass / Lens - Not sure what this is! With an seemingly aperture?
Wonder if this has anything to do with Adaptive Cruise Control - laser and video sensors !!

Also the Day Light Running Lamp Just above the fog lamp - has a Circular Ring on the inner side - could not make out what this is either. Again - wonder if this has to do with Sensors !
Comes with an 8.4" UConnect !!!
The Wheels are shown as 18" and Liked the Alloy Design, No, These are not Trailhawk

Was finally able to spot the Compass on road (Mumbai - Western Express Highway).

Certainly had decent road presence and the front looked pretty menacing in the ORVM. Have a look at this-

Dimensions were pretty similar to the Creta however it seemed slightly bigger. Here is a shot with an Ertiga-

While we are awaiting updates from the other members and the EAGERLY ANTICIPATED TBHP Review - Here are a few things which are available on the Compass from other geographies.

PS : If you open browser in a full size window - you can get to see 2 images side by side

Quite a few or all of these features may not be available in India - Some of them may not be seen as relevant in India - Some of them we may not be keen on having here in India - opinions will vary.
The features would come in a group - and we might like / want some specific features in a group and not all - mileage will vary.
(I like a single track or more but not the album - FCA may not be able to selectively give a specific feature - without the entire basket - as associated HW / SW would be same - leading to increase in cost)
However Auto -Headlamp, Wiper, IRVM along with Cruise Control & Panaromic roof could have been done!

The 3 U Connect Options - Apologies - Unable to get them in a row - for side by side comparison - The 5" & 7" shown here do not seem to be getting the piano black treatment for the bezel/frame and looks good in matte. 8.4" has the gloss version

!!!! Why is it that I like the 8.4" !!!!


On the safety front FCA India - Advertises 50+ Safety & Security Features - BUT on the other geographies - FCA Advertises 70+ Safety & Security Features - Some of these might be mandated, competitive.....
But does leave one feeling shortchanged

Below are a few I could find - and as stated earlier - relevance, basket & mileage will vary
FCA - categorizes these under - Security, Safety, Defensive, Innovative, etc.
Park View - we get - Park Sense & Rear Cross - These two could have been integrated with rear sensors and given to us - Not sure if India Spec has these. Blind Spot Monitoring - Would have really liked to have this.

Safety - Driver Assist

Here is how a Panoramic Roof would look on a Compass - This is a Dual Pane - with only the front portion opening and sliding back. I like it.
Pretty sure that the front portion wont slide back completely.

The bottom row of buttons on the RHS spoke of the steering below the Cruise Control buttons - are dummy even on the US variant
So we arent the only ones getting dummies


This is described as a 7" Personalized Information Center - Driver MID - Looks Good - Full Color - Would have really liked to have this - Pretty sure - we dont get this.
Do notice the ring of icons / indicators around the needle/spindle/stem of both the dials


CERTAIN versions also get --- BeatsAudio™ Premium II Audio System offers nine speakers with a 12-channel amp and a booming subwoofer. Would have REALLY Like to have this. Image is representative

On the Exterior - There is chrome tipped dual exhaust looks good

Saw the compass yesterday at a dealership in andheri mumbai.
Looks superb, built like a tank. The moment I saw and had a feel of it, i felt this is what i want.
BUT i am in market for an automatic. Compass will be launched initially with petrol auto with 7 speed dual clutch auto. On road expected to be around 20L. Auto box will be available in limited trim only with only 2 airbags, no rain sensors, no auto head lamps, no auto dimming IRVM. At 20L price point one would expect 6 air bags and other mentioned features or am I asking for too much.
Build is far far superior compared to creta.
Having seen and test drived various cars from city, verna, ecosport, rapid/vento to the likes of elantra, new octavia, corolla.
Honestly octavia is a bit of a stretch for me and elantra and corolla dont provide that solid feel of a german.
City is most loaded with features with sunroof and 6 airbags (no ESC) and acres of space but at 16 L on road in mumbai it surely is over priced and my fabia feels sturdy in comparison (both inside and outside). Rapid/Vento are fantastic but I am spoilt with slightly higher seating position and commanding view in yeti hence decided against sedans as of now. Dad does not like ecosport.

Mostly will be booking Compass, petrol Auto in this week. Color: RED or BLUE. If on road goes above 20L I will have to cancel the booking.

As per dealer they receive a total 15 bookings (I think they are exaggerating a bit here) a day in total from both of their branches in mumbai. So If i book now i will get the car in oct end.

Though the build quality and road presence is good, Jeep cannot afford to price the Petrol AT at 20L - reason being the absence of multiple D segment car features and missing side/curtain airbags.

Nice review of Jeep Compass on TheAutomotiveIndia

* Interiors are pretty OK but still can be much better in terms of appeal and in comparison to segment offerings.
* The ride is quite planted and braking is really impressive.
* No Nose Dive in straight line emergency braking.
* NVH is well controlled and cabin felt really silent.
* AC Unit worked sufficiently and the in-cabin cooling was good.
* 4x4 was equipped with Terrain Modes like Sand, Snow etc.
* The ICE display is reasonably good when reverse parking camera gets active.
* Upon corners, I did feel slight bit of body roll but that wasn't really a matter of concern as over all it was well balanced in terms of ride.
* The suspension to me felt quite good and well balanced. Over the obstacles, the feeling as a passenger was very assuring.
* Ingress and Egress are easy as well.
* At the venue, Test Drives were not provided to the guests since the Compass is not yet "Officially Launched".
* Key is pricing. FCA / Jeep can either make or break their fortunes with the Compass.
* Upon asking for the prices, I was told, "Sir delay in pricing is a corporate decision"
* Hexa or Compass: The better Off-Roader? Heart says HEXA!

I'm curious to know how fuel efficient the petrol A/Ts would be.

Also, given the general uncertainty around diesels, it would have been interesting for them to launch a Petrol 4x4 A/T variant as well.

Sales executive told me it will give around 10 in city which i doubt it will because of traffic due to metro work(western express highway kandivali- andheri) going on in mumbai.
And there wont be 4x4 petrol auto

Saw it near Trinity Circle - think it was a dark brown/maroon shade. Looked very imposing and the DRLs just right without being too bright or blingy.

If the Actual Compass which will be delivered to customer - does not have what is on the website - This is a big let down!! NOT DONE FCA !!


Just found 2 more pics from the Compass India Website gallery as shown below (At least the housing quality look decent)

Both Images are from a RHD - Compass - 1st Pic (of housing) shows the Selec Terrain knob on the LHS & 2nd (of housing) shows the knob on RHS ??? What is going on FCA ???

Thats exactly the reason why you should not go by the pictures in Magazines/Websites. Same as food pictures shown on the menu looks way different than what is served on table

1. The LHS picture is taken by a poor quality camera - just see how all the lines are pixelated
2. The console is not cleaned and there is a lot of dust on it.
3. Professional pics are definitely taken from the best angles and best lighting conditions to make the product look good.

That is why the best judgement can be made only by looking at in person, from the place where you will sit the most
