Re: Tata H5X Concept @ Auto Expo 2018. Named Tata Harrier! EDIT: Launched @ Rs. 12.69 lakhs

I saw a Harrier on Friday on my way to office. It was in the customary Orange colour.
Couldn't take photos while driving but formed an opinion on it.

It is a big car, filled up my RVM with the grille alone. The road presence is good, felt a lot more substantial than the Compass or a Creta but the Hexa still seems to have more presence for me.

It seemed to be handling direction changes well considering the kind of sweeping left right combination that I was following it through was taken calmly at over 80km/h (I was doing 80 at that time and the Harrier overtook me) there was no appreciable body roll to my eyes.

For me personally I'm not sure it provides the same imposing presence something like the Scorpio does but it sure does look handsome.

If Tata can fix the minor quality niggles mentioned here, I'd say the Harrier should get in with the Jeep crowd maybe even sway a few people off the Creta.

Spot on.

The Harrier is touted as a modern and premium offering from Tata the expectations are aligned to that.
That's called marketing. No manufacturer is going to present themselves to customers as bottom feeders.

I have not seen the car in person, but the first-hand reports on this thread indicates that Tata need to tighten up the QC aspect.
The day Tata quality matches that of Hyundai/VW they would have a price tag that matches Hyundai/VW.

I sure hope tata is using only the platform for the H7x and the body is a completely redesigned one with a more straight roofline towards the rear.

1.this would help in differentiation between the products

2.in the current setup , just extending a few CMs and plonking a third row might end up very tight.

That is the difference. But not double the price, the Tuscon starts fairly at the same price.

Re: Tata H5X Concept @ Auto Expo 2018. Named Tata Harrier! EDIT: Launched @ Rs. 12.69 lakhs

Went to a Tata showroom to see the Harrier in flesh, and boy it is big and impressive, as if a concept car in person compared to other Tata cars standing nearby. The closest I went to the car was 5 meters away as it was surrounded by such a big crowd, I knew it will take at least 2-3 hours for my turn, that too for just seeing and not test driving.

One thing for sure, if this is the impact design 2.0 , the impact is evident and the future Tata cars are going to be more aspirational than they ever have been, thereby helping the brand.

I for one can live with a few misaligned panels, glue popping out, minor rattles etc as long as it is fairly reliable and not break down in the middle of the road.

For all it is worth, it looks and feels much better than the XUV500, its chief competitor. So stop the nitpicking.
That argument may perhaps have held good over a decade ago. I believe that the game has moved on. We need to consider that if even a 2012-era Renault Duster that used manual welding machines has managed fairly tight panel alignment and shut lines, there is really no reason why a production line that claims to use 90% automation with robots in 2018- 2019, manages to misalign panels and plastics.

Also, I am of the opinion that these cannot merely be dismissed off as superficial or justified 'since its built-to-a cost'; its entirely also possible that the discrepancies visible may also prove to be symptomatic of what's under the hood! Its rather optimistic to think that the QC issues will / may be restricted to just what's visible to a discerning eye.

And believe me, the average buyer today has the freedom of vast choices and is shrewd in his or her choices! Its not exactly simply an equation of maximum bling and area on four wheels for minimum money, anymore.

Came across this decent interview of Mr. Rajendra Petkar, Tata Motor's CTO. He confirms that the Harrier will get the AT and a petrol engine in future.

Re: Tata H5X Concept @ Auto Expo 2018. Named Tata Harrier! EDIT: Launched @ Rs. 12.69 lakhs

I test drove the Harrier last week. I liked the vehicle. Provided it fits in my parking and they give me a decent automatic, I am buying one.

Request to Tata Motors: Panoramic sunroof + Automatic Version PLEASE. ASAP.

One is paying Creta money for a Tuscon rival. I love that math.

Re: Tata H5X Concept @ Auto Expo 2018. Named Tata Harrier! EDIT: Launched @ Rs. 12.69 lakhs

I had a chance to look at this one in flesh on Sunday. Sadly, this demo vehicle did not have the battery attached, so I could not check the boot nor the infotainment system.

The first thing you notice is the sheer size of it. It will drag your attention towards it. As I had driven the Nexon for a fair bit, I was not overwhelmed by the Harrier's interiors as such because the Nexon set a benchmark for a Tata vehicle for me.

I will not dwell too much on the things stated in plenty other posts, so I will point out the two things that disappointed me. The rear camera sticks out like a sore thumb, it should have been integrated better. The door grab handle is place weirdly vis-a-vis the door open lever. They are too close to each other and I found it difficult to operate. Any others feel the same?

Is this what you are trying to say?

Re: Tata H5X Concept @ Auto Expo 2018. Named Tata Harrier! EDIT: Launched @ Rs. 12.69 lakhs

Definitely one of the finest vehicles from Tata so far, but if I was in the market to buy a 20L vehicle, I would still give this a miss as its the new kid on the block and I wouldn't want to be the guinea pig for the first lot. A lot of issues and niggles are bound to get sorted out in the next 6-8 months and the facelift would be the right time to buy this if in fact it proves its quality by that time. But I also encourage other people to buy it because without them, the issues and niggles wouldn't get identified in this initial period

PS: I would apply this rule to almost all new launches and nothing specific to Tata and Mahindra. This is just my opinion as a buyer.

Yes, of course if they introduce everything at one shot, what will they do in a future facelift and hike the prices? A trick/ploy employed by most manufacturers. Just leave it out few things that all of us will wish for and then bring them in later.

Anyway that might be their business strategy or whatever, but they can't goof up on panel gaps or build quality in the introductory models and then make people wait for facelifts .
